The opportunity

A key attribute of the Unity Engine is the ease with which developers can build content for a variety of target platforms.

Most experiences also include media audio and / or video. Ensuring a seamless integration on each target platform is the mission of the Media team, a small but growing team with a large problem space.

While we maintain what has taken years to build, we have also embarked on a renewal of our tech stack to enable extensibility and offer our users the benefit of a cohesive and open framework.

What you'll be doing

• Help maintain a complex tech stack across Unity-supported platforms
• Help design and build hardware abstraction layers and cross-platform APIs
• Help refactor existing code to integrate third-party frameworks
• Interact with Unity customers and collaborate with internal media authoring teams

What we're looking for

• A passion for media video as well as audio
• Proficiency in C# and C++ and their interop
• Experience with media file formats, codecs, and streaming protocols
• Experience working with closed-source platform-specific media framework SDKs (any of Apple, Microsoft, Android, Sony, etc.)
• A team player with excellent communication skills

You might also have

• Experience working with Unity or a comparable game engine
• Experience working with an open-source media framework such as GStreamer
• Experience with colorspace management, digital image processing, digital audio signal processing, and systems-level programming
