Mechanical Designer / E.I.T. – Building Engineering

Salary: $75k - $90k + (Based on experience)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer / Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.). The ideal candidate brings strong technical design skills, experience delivering mechanical building systems across a range of project types, and the ambition to grow toward a senior designer or project engineer role. This position offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects in the commercial, residential, institutional, and healthcare sectors within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consulting environment.
Mechanical Design & Engineering
- Design and develop mechanical building systems including HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems.
- Perform load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layouts, and system sizing.
- Prepare high-quality design drawings, models, and technical documentation using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Assist in developing mechanical specifications, system narratives, and control sequences.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical teams, and other disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery.
- Participate in design meetings, respond to technical queries, and support project managers as required.
Construction Administration
- Conduct site reviews, prepare field reports, and verify contractor work for compliance with design intent.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and equipment submittals.
- Provide technical guidance during construction, ensuring quality and adherence to industry standards.
Technical Growth & Leadership
- Mentor junior designers and assist with training in drafting, modeling, and design methodology.
- Contribute to internal standards, workflows, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work toward assuming greater responsibility in project engineering and design leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
- Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) designation with APEGA; eligibility for P.Eng registration.
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a consulting engineering or building design environment.
- Proficiency with Revit (MEP), AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and relevant calculation tools (e.g., HAP).
- Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and Alberta industry practices.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with healthcare, institutional, commercial, or mixed-use projects is required.
