Salary: $53,000- $57,000 annually

Nature & Scope (Brief overview of the position)

YMCA Camp Kanannaq is nestled on the shores of Nadsilnich (West) Lake, just a 20-minute drive from Prince George, BC. Spanning 200 acres of stunning, forested lakefront, the camp features a beautiful waterfront where campers can swim or boat daily. The forested areas provide perfect settings for activities like archery, fire-building, and orienteering.

During July and August, Camp Kanannaq hosts day camp programs for youth aged 5-17, with one-week camps for those aged 5-15, and two to three-week leadership development programs. In the spring and fall, the camp offers both day and overnight Outdoor Education programs.

Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

As the Supervisor, Camp Kanannaq, you will oversee daily operations, manage interpersonal conflicts, and supervise staff recruitment and development. You will ensure a high-quality camper experience by aligning activities with the camp's mission and adhering to standards. Additionally, you will maintain health and safety protocols, support inclusive program development, and communicate with parents and partnership groups.

  • Provide on-site leadership of all day-to-day operations of Camp Kanannaq
  • Work collaboratively with the Director to manage interpersonal conflicts and challenging behaviours among campers, staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision and leadership of camp. Overseeing recruitment, coaching and providing professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee and maintain a high-quality camper experience, ensuring all activities align with camp’s mission and values; while ensuring all applicable BCCA, YMCA, and Camp Kanannaq standards, policies and procedures are followed and maintained in daily operation.
  • Maintain all health and safety protocols by acting as a First Aid attendant, doing site walkthroughs, reporting defects, maintaining site safety and cleanliness, wildlife mitigation.
  • Support the development and delivery of programs for inclusionincorporating equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, and truth and reconciliation, across all aspects of Camp.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and liaise with summer partnership groups and international groups.

Qualification-you bring:

  • 2+ years of leadership experience in a camp/recreation or education field.
  • Post secondary education in relevant field
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay focused on achieving results in a high-demand environment.
  • Ability for a flexible schedule to meet the operational needs.
  • Strong public relations, marketing and communication skills.
  • Valid Standard first aid and CPR C, PCOC Boat Operator’s certificate and BC class 4 license considered assets
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
