This position would be a great fit for an efficient problem solver with fine-tuned decision-making skills. This long-term contract / contract / contract / contract / contract / temporary opportunity for a Database Administrator is in Waterloo, Ontario.

What you get to do every day

- Maintain all database instances across development, staging, and production environments, handling installations and configurations as needed

- Restore service to databases as outages happen, including after hours and on weekends

- Provide guidance on database design, tuning options, and other possible issues

- Configure database monitoring utilities to avoid false alarms

- Find the most effective solution for increasing performance, including purchasing hardware and making changes to the server configuration or index/query

- Verify that SLA objectives for database server topology, configuration, and maintenance are met in design and execution

- Establish the baseline for system performance and detect deviation, suggesting and executing improvements to slow running queries

Job Requirements:
- 3+ years of database experience

- Linux System Administration experience

- Command of PostgreSQL

- Apache Tomcat experience preferred

- Deep understanding of virtualization

- Skilled at making improvements to query performance

- Experience developing and maintaining documentation

- Prior experience in production and on-call environments

- Storage and server hardware experience a plus

- Good understanding of relational database management systems
