Job Duties Job Duties The Team Lead of the Student Health Nurses is accountable to the Director, Counselling, Accessibility and Health Services.
In addition, this position is clinically accountable to the Primary Health and Preventative Medicine (PHPM) Medical Health Officer (MHO) contracted to provide consultation to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
This position is further accountable to, and governed by medical regulatory and licensing bodies, including the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS);
the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA); Ministry of Health in the province of Saskatchewan, and all applicable legislation governing the practice of Health Care in Saskatchewan.
This position is required to bring advanced knowledge and working understanding of, as well as to remain current on and follow, the numerous standards of health care practice, including the Saskatchewan Immunization Manual (SIM);
the Canadian Immunization Guide (CIG); the Canadian Guidelines on Tuberculosis; and the World Health Organization health monitoring data and resources.
An advanced level of knowledge, several years of experience and demonstrated independent leadership skills in the practice of Nursing is required for ensuring this position operates within its multiple accountabilities.
Job Duties will include :
1. Provide direct, clinical and operational leadership to the Student Health Nurse (SHN) provincial team; this will require travel to all four campuses to meet with team members2.
Supervise the ongoing professional development, and clinical services of the SHN team3. Assign, distribute and re-distribute workload and duties to the SHNs to meet student needs4.
Liaise between the SHN team and the Director, Counselling, Accessibility and Health; the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Medical Health Officer consultant to Saskatchewan Polytechnic;
the Coordinator, Counselling and Health services; and other teams / departments internal or external to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
5. Lead the creation of work standards, procedures, documents, updates, correspondence, presentations, and other communications, to support the clinical and operational activities of the SHN team.
6. Assist with the provision of health services to students as required.7. Manage day to day requests, schedules, expenses, budget, and operational needs of the CHN team, escalating same to the Director, when appropriate.
8. Lead and champion new projects, initiatives and implementations to the Student Health Nurse services team.9. Assist with compiling and analyzing data, statistics, and other metrics of SHN services, and complete reports.
10. Other duties, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1.
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or Bachelors of Science (BSN, BScN, etc.) in Nursing.
2. Minimum of five years’ experience working as a Registered Nurse in the province of Saskatchewan.3. Eligible for registration or has active status as a Registered Nurse, with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
4. Has current knowledge of immunizations and understands the administration of routine immunizations.
5. Demonstrated working understanding of : CRNS regulatory requirements, SHA structure and processes, documentation systems including eHealth viewer and Panorama, and legislation including HIPA, and LAFOIP
6. Ability to independently use computers, electronic health records / management systems, MS Office including : Outlook, PowerPoint;
Word; Excel and MS Teams; OneDrive Bookings and, Zoom web-meeting applications.7. Knowledge of cultural sensitivity, cultural safety, and the barriers to education affecting Indigenous and racialized students and has knowledge of the social, economic, cultural, immigration and contextual factors impacting international students and newcomers to Canada.
8. Provide leadership that fosters communication and collaboration amongst team members.9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact as a collaborative team member across the entire institution of Saskatchewan Polytechnic as well as with all external stakeholders.
