Position purpose :

Reporting to the Finance Manager, provides expert advice and guidanceto management and other members of the faculty or service in relation to financial management.

Contributes to short-, medium- and long-term decision-making processes by providing support and recommendations for financial analyses, budgeting, reporting and forecasts

In this role, your responsibilities will include :

  • Resource Planning : Plans, coordinates and conducts complex financial studies and analyses to make useful recommendations to management for identifying objectives, planning for the short, medium and long term, setting budget priorities and devising financial strategies for faculty or service budgets, including for special programs and projects.
  • Reporting and Financial Tool Design : Creates complex financial reports and helps design analytical tools such as dashboards, performance and quality control indicators, and costing models to support decision making and ensure the faculty or service's financial resources are managed in a consistent and efficient manner.
  • Expert Consulting : Provides expert advice to members of the faculty or service in relation to financial and accounting operations, as well as associated policies and procedures so as to ensure that financial activities are compliant, consistent and comprehensive.
  • Financial Management : Plans and coordinates the budgeting process, and analyzes and corrects forecasts. Ensures that funds are available and recommends appropriate measures for members of the faculty or service.

As the main approving officer, oversees financial operations related to the management of the faculty or service's allocated funds, ensuring that the faculty or service complies with financial policies, administrative procedures and guidelines of the University and funding agencies so that it performs well on audits.

Special Projects : Plans, manages and evaluates assigned special projects related to finances, budgets or physical and material resources.

Defines special project scopes, determines steps, monitors relevant progress, makes adjustments throughout the process and ensures efficient communication between participants.

Policies and Procedures : Helps develop and implement internal financial guidelines, procedures and processes to improve operational efficiency and ensure that financial operations comply with the policies, guidelines and laws governing the University.

What you will bring :

  • University degree in accounting, finance or business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum seven years of demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Professional accounting accreditation an asset
  • Knowledge of business administration processes and practices, including financial planning and budgeting
  • Knowledge of financial planning principles, policies, procedures and practices
  • Thorough knowledge of the administrative structure and governance of a large organization, preferably in a university setting
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Project management experience
  • Autonomy and discretion
  • Critical and analytical thinking
  • Knowledge and experience using computer systems and software such as Windows, financial systems, spreadsheets, databases, the internet and email
  • Bilingualism - English and French (spoken and written)
