Definition
The Director of Accounting will scale and lead the client‑facing financial operations team to 3x capacity, while owning customer experience, team performance, and tech process improvements. This role will evolve into the COO position after successfully achieving the 3x scaling goal by December 31, 2026 (with a maximum 6‑month leverage).
Key Responsibilities
Client‑Facing Team Leadership
- Oversee the client‑facing team : Practice Leads (PL.ca), Practice Managers (PMs), Fractional CFO / Controller (fCFO), and Payroll Manager.
- Hire and develop Client‑Facing Team Managers who lead execution teams in India.
- Collaborate with NTOM (New Team Onboarding Manager) and training coach to support team development.
- Receive regular reporting from all direct reports, hold them accountable for KPI performance, and address process gaps proactively.
Customer Experience & Delivery Ownership
Design and improve customer experience across Accounting, Payroll, and CFO / Controller & Tax functions.Reduce client friction related to banking access, data sharing, and document delivery.Review and optimize overall customer support through regular reporting and feedback loops.Liaise with CRA and provincial authorities for client‑related GST, PST, PSB, WCB, and EHT matters.Represent clients and Transcounts in CRA reviews and audit matters.Synchronize hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and process feedback loops with the Director of Operations (DoO).Support and back up Payroll Manager while streamlining payroll processes.Strengthen and scale the fCFO service offering and lead the growth of this new team.Innovation & Technology Management
Own the client‑facing tech stack for bookkeeping, payroll, AP / AR, and CFO services (internal IT and non‑client tech is managed by the IT Manager).Keep systems future‑ready using AI, ML, RPA tools, including Bookkeeping Bot and automation pipelines.Team Scaling and Collaboration with DoO
Plan for new client onboarding, team assignment, and delivery optimization in collaboration with the DoO and CEO.Support hiring, onboarding, and team development with DoO, who is responsible for India team talent building pipeline and internal operations for the India office.Exchange feedback regularly with DoO to align hiring, process development, and training.Ensure seamless integration of new clients and team members and NTOM (training), even if they report to DoO.KPI Ownership & Performance Review
Manage the GST / HST / PST and year‑end calendar across the team.Maintain zero‑miss compliance on critical filing and delivery deadlines.Conduct monthly reviews with the CEO to assess operational challenges, propose solutions, and ensure alignment with growth objectives.Path to COO
After achieving the 3x goal (by Dec 31, 2026, with a 6‑month leverage), the Director of Accounting will :Set the next 3x scaling goal.Develop internal leaders for the roles of Director of Accounting, Director of fCFO, and Director of Payroll.Transition into the COO role, reporting directly to the CEO.Must Have
Comfortable to be onsite at the work location (Langley, BC).Worked in Public Practice for minimum 5+ years – preferably for Fractional CFO / Controller or at least in accounting / bookkeeping / tax / consultancy.Must have managed 9+ Canadian / USA team members in Public Practice ecosystem.CRA Rep Account already set up.Must be in Canada for the past 5 years.CPA / CFA / MBA / Post‑Graduate.Ability to work in a fast‑paced startup environment, where you hack everything and always look for creative ways to get the job done.Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi‑task.Highly Preferred
5+ years of accounting experience and previous team management experience.Anyone who has tried own bookkeeping or CFO firm in the past.CPA certification would be a great asset.Key Expectations
