Our client in the environmental services industry is seeking a Post-Collection Manager to join their team in Vancouver, BC on a 2-year contract.
The Manager, Post-Collection, is responsible for the operational oversight of the post-collection services for Recycle BC, ensuring the contract is successfully executed and desired outcomes are achieved.
This role will manage post-collection operations for the entire Recycle BC reverse supply chain network ensuring successful ongoing operations and continuous improvement.
The Manager is responsible for maintaining dialogue between internal stakeholders to ensure the post-collection network interacts effectively with all parts of the program, and with external stakeholders as necessary.
A focus on continuous improvement will ensure the Manager stays in tune with new technology, and processes and takes action to ensure the Recycle BC post-collection network remains competitive and leading edge. Responsibilities :
- Develop and maintain relationship with post-collection service provider, chairing regular Operations Control meetings to address and correct issues before they escalate.
- Hold post-collection service provider responsible as per the post-collection Statement of Work (SOW), or otherwise ensure any changes or modifications proceed by means of the proper authority and documentation.
- Eye towards continuous improvement ensuring the post-collection contractor maintains their network in a state ready to accept, process, and market the ever-evolving inbound material stream, otherwise working with them to trial and implement new technologies or processes as per pilot programs or changes in the SOW.
- Hold post-collection contractor responsible for all reporting requirements and deadlines as outlined in the Post-collection SOW
- Lead the review of the annual mass balance calculation and submit recommendation for approval (or otherwise) to Western Canada Director, Post-Collection and Material Regeneration, making sure to understand any anomalies and working with the post-collection partner to fix and improve issues to ensure compliance.
- Manage the delivery of inbound materials as per their designated streams and facilities. Ensure split weighing is done accurately and consistently.
Also ensure corresponding data and reporting from post-collection service provider is done correctly.
- Develop best practices and tools to manage the ongoing oversight of the inbound material.
- Management, and on-going review to recommend changes if needed, of split weigh procedures to ensure clear understanding of responsibilities and actions between facility and collector in execution of truck weighing.
- Development of glass management procedures and oversight of glass streams and contamination reduction methodologies.
- Train and mentor as appropriate, with consideration toward their future growth within the organization
- Work closely with Post-Collection Field Services Specialist on projects such as inbound material quality in facilities with commingled streams
- Together, work closely with Collection team to resolve ongoing collection issues as it pertains to post-collection
- Work with Western Canada Director, Post-Collection and Material Regeneration to improve methods for tracking chain of custody of recycled materials, and investigate shortcomings or anomalies as needed.
- Work closely with other Managers to ensure seamless flow of information and issue resolution between departments, including Collection, Audits, Special Projects, First Nations, and Marketing Communications.
- Provide support to Manager, Material Services as required from time-to-time.
- Provide input to other collection services such as P&E and Administration as per the collection service provider SOW by forwarding observations and data on the reverse material flow which impact collection service, such as contamination, commingling and authorizations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on one-off and long-term projects and studies which directly relate to post-collection services.
- Participate on industry working groups and projects as required to represent Recycle BC from a post-collection perspective.
- Stay in tune with the marketplace to understand the latest trends and technologies in post- collection processing, EPR programs, and other relevant sectors, and use this knowledge and awareness to adopt best practices and drive long term strategic planning.
- Actively participate in supply chain strategic operational planning. Bring knowledge and practical insight into this process as part of post-collection team.
Qualifications :
- Post-secondary education related to an engineering background (i.e., industrial or manufacturing engineer), Business Administration, professional designation from a recognized procurement or logistics organization, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5-7 years’ experience in education field (as above), operational optimization, waste management or logistics contracting.
- Knowledge of waste management, materials management and logistics or related operational business activities.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Good verbal communications skills.
- Excellent relationship management and managerial skills.
- This position will require an individual who is able to communicate well with blue and white collar employees and who is able to work in an environment that is open to the elements, may be dirty and surrounded with heavy machinery and processing equipment.
- Very strong analytical skills and numbers acumen.
- Flexible work schedule requiring periods of extended working hours to meet deadlines during peak periods.
- Ability to work in an environment that is open to the elements and may be dirty and surrounded with heavy machinery and processing equipment.
- Requires travel within the province to meet with collection, transportation and processing partners.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
