Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Decisions and Pricing Foundations)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Decisions and Pricing Foundations team owns the foundational aspect of the Underwriting Engine, architecting, modernizing, and optimizing affirm’s underwriting capabilities to serve an ever increasing number of consumers and merchants while maintaining high availability and excellent economics.

What You'll Do

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open‑ended problems and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and stakeholders during the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade‑offs.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
• Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” and on‑call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and technical talks.
• Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

What We Look For

Equity Grade – 6

Employees new to affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. affirm focuses on a simple and transparent pay structure incorporating location, experience, and job‑related skills. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, as well as benefits such as 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents. Employees may also be eligible for equity rewards offered by affirm holdings, inc. (parent company).

CAN base pay range per year : $150,000 – $200,000

Affirm is proud to be a remote‑first company! The majority of our roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. affirmers in proximal roles have the flexibility to work remotely, but will occasionally be required to work out of their assigned affirm office. A limited number of roles remain office‑based due to the nature of their job responsibilities.
