Position Overview

We’re seeking a dedicated Mental Health and Well‑being professional who will play a critical role in the development, coordination and ongoing enhancement of mental health and well‑being supports and services and training in the department. This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Salary Range : PB I – $40.39 (start rate) – $46.64 (4‑year rate)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides functional leadership, guidance, and support to MHWB team members.
  • Coordinates, assigns work, schedules day‑to‑day tasks, projects, workshops, trainings, events, and programming for internal and external partners based on operational need, ensuring consistent and centralized organization and prioritisation.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for mental health and well‑being team members requiring consultation to support day‑to‑day work. Triages student mental health referrals requiring escalation to manager or campus safety services where required.
  • Coordinates and delivers onboarding for MHWB team members. Demonstrates tasks, systems and workflow. Ensures department‑specific training is completed (START, PHIPA etc.).
  • In collaboration with other Student Success leads, supports and organizes team participation in college‑wide events (including but not limited to : Head Start, Orientation, Open House, Growler’s Market).
  • Leads the development and coordination of department marketing and communication assets and ensures webpages, Service Now Knowledge Articles, Bear Necessities, and other information is accurate and up to date.
  • Leads the development, delivery and coordination of innovative MHWB training and programming, including the LivingWorks START program. Ensures participants are provided with training licences, and schedules team members to facilitate debrief discussions.
  • Leads the delivery of professional development opportunities for staff and faculty in addressing student mental health.
  • Provides in‑depth understanding of the role of mental health promotion and supports student retention and success.
  • Leads the development and / or updating of holistic workshops delivered by the MHWB team that aim to provide holistic, educational workshops and group programming grounded in evidence, trauma‑informed and anti‑oppressive practice and demonstrate cultural‑competence.
  • Leads psychosocial and psycho‑educational workshops as appropriate to support student success.
  • Delivers services in a professional and culturally sensitive manner that is responsive to the needs of the client, while handling personal issues raised in a sensitive and confidential manner.
  • Sits on and contributes to cross‑college and external committees on behalf of the MHWB team (Open House, Safer Spaces, EAB Navigate, Bell Let’s Talk, Mental Health Day etc.).
  • Leads, coordinates, plans, implements and delivers mental health events. Assigns work to team members supporting events in preparation for, and at events. Schedules team members to ensure event coverage at all campuses as necessary.
  • Acts as the primary contact / lead supporting MHWB team in the implementation of new software and digital innovation systems (e.g. EAB Navigate, Service Now).

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed a 3‑year degree in the field of social sciences, that may include but is not limited to Social Work and / or Counselling Psychology.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in post‑secondary and / or MHWB environment with 2 years functional guidance / leadership experience is required.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
  • Experience creating and implementing a project plan as well as developing and facilitating mental health training.
  • Advanced understanding of frameworks for addressing student mental health; able to take a leadership role in mental health promotion, education, student skill development, partnerships with academic areas for early alert, and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of mental health and available campus and community supports, particularly as this relates to complex and diverse challenges facing post‑secondary students.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience with Webex and Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) WordPress.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage support staff and work with staff from different departments.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
