School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) is accepting applications for Certified Music Teachers. Our District In the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District, we serve just over 6700 students in 24 schools through a variety of sites located around Shuswap Lake and the North Okanagan.

Elementary Music teachers provide preparation time for their colleagues, so the exact size of assignments to schools may fluctuate in September depending upon enrollment.

  • Qualifications : Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent; Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;
  • Orff levels, Kodaly levels or equivalent coursework. Teachers applying for this position must possess some or all of the following skills : successful experience in Elementary or Secondary Music instruction and / or Middle School Band instruction;
  • excellent classroom management skills; evidence of excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills in working with staff, students and parents;
  • demonstrated ability to use a variety of current instructional strategies and assessment methods; working knowledge of the renewed curriculum for Arts Education;
  • commitment to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning; ability to teach recorder, guitar, band, dance and / or choir;
  • demonstrated ability to work collegially as part of a school staff; comfortable planning and executing school-wide concerts and events;
  • ability to relate effectively to all students; ability to promote support for a school’s Music program; successful recent experience working with students with special needs in an inclusive environment;
