Open Learning Faculty Member (Lab): WTTP 1891: Water Treatment Lab 2

DUTIES

This course offers students’ hands-on practical training integral to the development of water operators. Students’ progress through practical labs involving water quality sampling and analysis, basic electrical, instrumentation, mechanical system maintenance, and plant operation fundamentals for water treatment and distribution.

Instructor #2 : Mechanical Systems, Electrical and Instrumentation Lab

This Lab will be offered in Kamloops, BC from : July 22 to 26, 2024

In the teaching of the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation labs, this Open Learning Faculty Member (OLFM) will be responsible for the following :

• Will pre-prepare labs, by acquiring and setting up lab equipment and tools associated with the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems and will coordinate the labs and lab space with School of Trades & Technology
• Will have knowledge of lab safety procedures, PPE and safe handling and use of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment and tools.
• Will carry out lab activities and assignments in the following :
• Pump maintenance techniques
• Piping fundamentals
• Cross-connections
• Mechanical safety procedures
• Basic electrical circuitry
• Electrical Installation procedures
• Electrical trouble shooting techniques
• Basic motor control techniques
• Electrical safety procedures
• Basic instrumentation circuitry
• Instrumentation installation procedures
• Instrumentation trouble shooting techniques
• Lab clean-up and storing the equipment as per departmental standards.

This OLFM will also be responsible for :

• Will communicate with water quality lab faculty in the delivery of the course.
• Will assess students in all the above-mentioned activities and submit the mark to the water quality lab OLFM for final collation and entry of the marks.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will hold a related inter-provincial trade or a technology qualification or a related degree in Engineering.

Preference will be given to candidate with instructional experience in water & wastewater treatment industry. Related work experience is essential.

In addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills, the preferred candidates will have demonstrated skills and abilities in adult education delivery and in trades laboratory instruction.

The Open Learning Faculty Member must :

• Be knowledgeable and experienced in the subject matter of the course.
• Have received training or have successful experience in the active facilitation of learning in a collaborative environment.
• Have direct experience working with current educational technologies, tools, and Learning Management Systems
• Have demonstrated knowledge of effective pedagogy in the use of current educational technology and tools.
• Have demonstrated skills and abilities in the delivery of flexible learning materials, the application of instructional technology and in the application of adult learning principles.

The pay for Open Learning Faculty Members varies based on several factors including the number of students in the course, the type of work, the type of course and the number of assessments completed by students in the course.
