Canadian Radiation Safety Officer

Position Description

Position Title : Canadian Radiation Safety Officer (Canada) (Oakville / Kitchener Based)

Reporting relationship : Reports to Sr EH&S Manager Canada

Manages : Radiation Safety Program

Attendance Requirements : 40 hours per week / between Mon - Fri / plus as required for Incidents

General Summary

The main purpose of the function is to ensure that personnel and the company in general are performing all radiographic duties safely and in accordance with Federal, Provincial, and local regulatory requirements.

This includes the requirements of all applicable TISI radiation safety policies and procedures.

Responsible for implementing, coordinating, writing and maintaining of company policy, radiation safety manuals, procedures, etc, for District offices across Canada, as follows :

  • Emergency & Operating Procedures (CNSC)
  • Transport of Dangerous Goods Manuals
  • Technician Working Procedure
  • Radiation awareness training manual.
  • Source retrieval training and procedure.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establish and maintain the Radiography Operating Procedures.
  • Authority to enforce Safe Radiographic Operations.
  • Establish a training program for radiography personnel to include ALARA concepts and techniques.
  • Establish programs to determine the competency of radiography personnel.
  • Maintain control of procurement and disposal of nuclear substances for radiography.
  • Assure that the Personnel Monitoring program is in place.
  • Assure an adequate number of exposure devices and associated equipment is available and maintained.
  • Assure adequate numbers of Radiation Survey Instruments are available.
  • Assure a Radiation Survey Instrument Calibration program is in place and maintained.
  • Establish and maintain a Leak and Wipe Test Program.
  • Establish and maintain an Internal Inspection / Audit system.
  • Assure that Licensee's record-keeping system is adequate and maintained.
  • Establish an equipment inspection and maintenance program.
  • Investigate the cause of incidents and determine corrective / preventive action.
  • Monitor and assume control if necessary in emergencies.
  • Serve as Licensee Liaison Officer with Regulators and Management of License matters.
  • Perform radiation safety audits and radiation safety / security-related field inspections.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Volunteer and be involved with industry associations and Industry / Regulatory Working Groups.
  • Attend Radiation Safety related trade shows and industry meetings that provide value to TISI Canada and execution of the job function.

Position Standards

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred. (Emphasis on math and physics)
  • RSO third-party training and subsequent refresher training.
  • Source Retrieval training.
  • TDG third-party training
  • Third-party auditor training and asset
  • Ideally, a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the NDE industry.
  • Minimum CGSB RT level 1 certified and / or CEDO certification.
  • Computer skills that include MS Windows and MS Office experience.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a private / semi-private office / cubicle setting.
  • Some short-term national travel is required.

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
