Reporting to the Head, Government Affairs, the Senior Manager, Government and Public Affairs will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of government and public affairs and advocacy activities that advance TMX's interests globally.
The Senior Manager, Government Affairs will provide strategic insight to TMX executives and support the execution of TMX’s advocacy strategy.
This role will be accountable for maintaining and enhancing TMX's relationship with our external government and public affairs stakeholders across Canada and internationally.
Key Responsibilities :
Helps develop and lead the government affairs strategy. Leads TMX government and public affairs and provides strong strategic support to all other jurisdictions.
Provides expert knowledge, intelligence and insight on political risks and opportunities that may impact TMX’s strategic plans.
Identifies trends and potential threats and opportunities to TMX’s operations and develops and implements strategic and tactical plans to address those threats and opportunities;
Proactively monitors legislative, regulatory and public policy developments that may impact TMX’s business opportunities and growth objectives in conjunction with the General Counsel's Office.
Provides expert strategic insight and leadership on key developments in the ESG space, with particular emphasis on environmental disclosure and Indigenous community engagement.
Manages a central database of government and public affairs key contacts and tracks interactions, policy files and upcoming opportunities to engage with these stakeholders.
Monitors and ensures compliance with lobbyist registries as applicable.
Produces regular Government / Public Affairs internal communications products to help ensure internal coordination across the enterprise.
Identifies success indicators for government relations strategies and ensures that day-to-day operations activities are effectively managed;
Attends government and industry association roundtable and / or committee meetings as a TMX representative, tracking meeting action items and ensuring follow-up and / or acting as main TMX spokesperson.
Drafts key messages and background briefs for senior executives for advocacy purposes.
Conducts annual survey of internal stakeholders to assess performance of government and public affairs functions and identify areas for improvement.
Key Qualifications :
Bachelor Degree in Administration, Politics or other related fields. Advanced degree in related fields (Law, Business, Environmental Science) a strong asset.
7-10 years’ combined experience in governmental or government / public affairs roles.
Bilingual (French / English) an asset.
Highly knowledgeable about the political, economic and social factors affecting public policy decision making in Canada, with a strong preference for direct experience in Quebec.
Experience in Environmental, Social, and Governance Issues, including climate disclosure and indigenous community relations.
Demonstrated knowledge of / or experience with the broader Canadian financial sector, regulatory affairs or legal issues.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
Strong policy development, research and analytical skills.
