About Precision AI
Precision AI is on a mission to transform agriculture with cutting‑edge drone technology. Our aerial spraying systems help farmers target weeds with surgical precision, reducing chemical use and increasing yields. We’re a fast‑moving, impact‑driven team looking for people who want to help build the future of farming.
Role Overview
The ideal Systems Engineer at Precision AI is someone who can see the full system, understand how disciplines interact, and ensure complex UAV platforms come together reliably. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside mechanical, electrical, controls, embedded, optics / vision, and AI engineers, owning system‑level thinking from concept through flight testing.
If you enjoy bridging hardware, software, and operational realities—translating high‑level goals into clear requirements, interfaces, and validation plans—this role will feel like home. You bring strong technical breadth, structured thinking, and the ability to anticipate integration risks before they become field failures.
You’ll spend your days defining system architectures, managing interfaces between subsystems, and supporting integration and test activities. Some days you’ll be driving requirements, diagrams, and trade studies; other days you’ll be in the lab or field helping debug cross‑disciplinary issues and aligning teams around system‑level decisions.
At Precision AI, we move fast and build things that matter. If you thrive in ambiguity, enjoy enabling other engineers to move faster, and want to own the technical glue that holds an autonomous aerial system together, we’d love to meet you.
This role is hybrid in Calgary due to the hands‑on nature of system integration, testing, and UAV flight verification and validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain system‑level architectures for UAV and ground platforms, including hardware, software, and operational components.
- Translate product and mission goals into clear, testable system requirements and constraints.
- Own system‑level documentation including block diagrams, interface definitions, and data flows.
- Organize power budgets, communication budgets, weight and CG, controls margin, and additional engineering budgets that need to be held by the systems engineering team.
- Perform hazards analysis and FMEA with UI output.
- Drive trade studies to balance performance, reliability, cost, and schedule at the system level.
- Coordinate manuals for equipment, LRUs, Operations, and Maintenance for multiple vehicles.
Interface Definition & Integration
Define and manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, controls, embedded, vision, and AI subsystems.Ensure interface assumptions are documented, communicated, and validated across teams.Support integration planning and sequencing to reduce downstream surprises.Identify and resolve cross‑disciplinary integration issues during lab and field testing.Define system‑level verification and validation strategies tied to requirements.Verification, Validation & Risk Management
Develop test plans that span subsystems and validate end‑to‑end behavior.Participate directly in integration, ground testing, and flight testing activities.Track system‑level risks and lead mitigation strategies as designs evolve.Analyze failures and test results to identify root causes that cross subsystem boundaries.Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineering leads to align system decisions with execution realities.Serve as a technical connective tissue across teams, ensuring alignment and shared understanding.Relevant Experience
3–6 years of experience in systems engineering, integration engineering, or a technically broad engineering role.Experience working on complex electromechanical, robotic systems, or UAVs.Strong understanding of how mechanical, electrical, software, and controls systems interact.Experience supporting system integration, testing, and field deployments.Ability to create clear documentation and requirements that engineers actually use. What You Bring
Systems‑level mindset with the ability to zoom out and zoom in as needed.Comfort operating in ambiguity and evolving designs.Strong communication skills and the ability to align diverse technical teams.Hands‑on attitude : willing to engage in lab and field troubleshooting.Willingness to travel 5–10% for field deployments and integration tests.Bonus
Experience with UAVs, autonomous vehicles, or outdoor robotics platforms. Background in aerospace, automotive, or agricultural systems engineering.Experience leading or coordinating multi‑disciplinary integration efforts.Familiarity with safety‑critical or reliability‑focused development environments.Experience with requirements management or system modeling tools.Competition or Open Source Team Experience. Not Sure You Meet Every Requirement?
Research shows that some candidates, especially women, underrepresented groups, and career changers, are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet 100% of the listed qualifications. At Precision AI, we believe the right person can grow into the role, and we value potential as much as experience. If you’re excited about our mission and think you could contribute, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t check every single box.
Equal Employment Opportunity
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other status protected by law.
