The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.
Working between four Delta Recreation Centers (South Delta Recreation Center, Ladner Community Center, Pinewood Community Center and North Delta Recreation Center), the Program Support Worker will assist in summer day camps to provided one to one support for a child with a disability.
The successful candidate will be available to work June 24 through to August 23, 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide constant communication with Volunteer Coordinators in regards to the participant's portfolios, background information, program progress and in assessing and dealing with any participant challenges;
- Maintain regular communication with participant's parents regarding their child's progress;
- Assist participant to integrate into camp activities and recreation settings;
- Work with summer day camp staff to incorporate children with disabilities into summer programs. This includes being aware of the plans for each day and working together to recognize activities in which the child can participate.
- Provide input into programs that may need to be modified and assess activities that may not be suitable for the participant;
- Assist with participants toileting (when necessary);
- Deal with problems and behavioural issues that may arise.
Qualifications
The preferred applicant will be a student seeking a career in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Education Assistant and / or a related discipline and a minimum of six months related experience working with children and / or youth with disabilities.
In addition, the successful candidate should be familiar with and be able to demonstrated experience with inclusion, effective problem management, working effectively as part of a team and developing relationships with staff co-workers.
