Job description

Construction General Foreman - Electrical (Prince George)

Are you Ready to Build the Future of AI Infrastructure?

If you're energized by massive scale, deep technical complexity, and the opportunity to shape the next era of compute, this is your moment. Join a team where groundbreaking work meets competitive compensation, meaningful impact, and a chance to accelerate your career at the forefront of AI innovation. We want to meet you.

Why IREN?

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN's platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

This position is based on-site in Prince George, BC, supporting the construction expansion at our operating data center site. The site runs day and night shifts; this role is shift-based with a rotational schedule to be confirmed with the successful candidate.

The Role

The General Foreman – Electrical is the Electrical Superintendent's eyes and ears on the electrical scope of the Prince George expansion at our operating data center. You run the day-to-day execution of medium- and low-voltage distribution, critical power, grounding, controls and the electrical side of the cooling systems: directing crews and contractors, holding the schedule, enforcing quality and safety, and keeping the work moving beside live infrastructure. This is a site leader's seat, not a lead hand's: you read the project plan and the schedule, run the progress meetings for your scope, work directly with contractors and external parties, and stand alongside the Superintendents as part of the site leadership team. Expect to spend the majority of every shift in the field.

Job Requirements

  • Daily Execution: Conduct daily walkdowns of all active electrical work areas; confirm crews and contractors are working to the current plan, drawings, single-lines and specifications; verify manpower, tooling, test equipment and material readiness against the three-week look-ahead and report shortfalls to the Superintendent.
  • Schedule & Progress: Own the electrical look-ahead for your shift; track daily progress, quantities and manpower against the schedule; run the electrical plan-of-day and progress meetings and report clearly, in numbers, to the Superintendent and Construction Manager.
  • Coordination: Coordinate electrical work fronts, access, laydown and equipment set (switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDUs, busway) with the mechanical, civil and network scopes and with site operations to avoid conflicts, trade stacking and risk to live systems.
  • Live-Site Controls: Confirm that permits, hazard assessments, lockout/tagout, arc-flash controls and energized-work authorizations are in place before electrical work proceeds; coordinate isolations and energizations with the LOTO Coordinator and site operations.
  • Quality: Enforce the Quality Management Plan and electrical ITPs in the field, including hold points, witness points and sign-offs; verify installations covering MV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDUs and busway; cable tray, conduit, pulling, terminations, splicing and labelling; grounding and bonding; controls, BMS/EPMS and communications; and the electrical infrastructure supporting cooling systems. Witness megger, continuity, torque, hi-pot, ground resistance and point-to-point testing; drive non-conformances to verified closure.
  • Contractors & External Parties: Act as IREN's primary daily field contact for electrical contractor foremen and site supervisors, Technical Safety BC inspectors, third-party testing (NETA or equivalent) and the Electrical Engineer of Record's field reviews; review work packages, method statements, energization plans and lift plans for constructability.
  • Safety Leadership: Model and enforce IREN's safety culture and WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation requirements across all electrical crews, with particular focus on electrical safety, arc-flash protection and energized-work controls; lead toolbox talks and field-level hazard assessments; stop work where conditions present an unacceptable risk.
  • Documentation: Maintain daily field logs, photo records, progress notes and deficiency tracking; support RFI follow-up, field changes and as-built markups; support energization, commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing by confirming installation completeness and punch-list closure ahead of each milestone.

Job Responsibilities

  • Journeyperson (Red Seal) Electrician with 10+ years of industrial electrical construction experience (data centers, power generation, substations, oil and gas, mining, pulp and paper or heavy industrial), including 3+ years as a foreman, general foreman or equivalent leading electrical crews and contractors.
  • Project and schedule literacy: able to read the project plan and schedule, build and hold a look-ahead, run progress meetings and report in quantities and manpower.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with contractors, inspectors and engineers as the site's electrical authority.
  • Strong working knowledge of MV/LV distribution, critical power (UPS, generators, PDUs), grounding and controls installation; able to read single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1), CSA Z462, BC Building Code and WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation as they apply to field execution.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal firmly and professionally with contractor supervision; comfortable as part of the site leadership team alongside the Superintendents.
  • Proficiency with common construction software (Procore or similar), Microsoft Office and mobile field-inspection tools; valid driver's licence and legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work on-site in Prince George, BC on a rotational schedule, day or night shift; live-site (brownfield) experience an asset.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience on mission-critical or data center electrical construction, including liquid-cooled infrastructure and its electrical interfaces.
  • Experience with energization, commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing of critical power systems; familiarity with NETA acceptance testing and Technical Safety BC processes.
  • Experience running self-perform crews alongside contractors.
  • Gold Seal Certification, CSTS-2020 or BCCSA safety training, and standard first aid.

Why You Will Love Working Here

  • Work with state-of-the-art AI hardware and some of the most advanced compute systems in the world
  • Be part of a team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning
  • Make a measurable impact on the performance and reliability of global AI workloads
