PAYROLL SPECIALIST

Reporting to the Sr. Payroll Specialist, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the full-cycle payroll processing for approximately 1,300 employees and for responding to payroll inquiries, interpreting and applying payroll rules and regulations, and implementing best practices in a high-volume, multi-jurisdictional payroll environment.

  • Full-time, Permanent

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the entire payroll process for a multi-jurisdictional payroll of approximately 1,300 employees.
  • Process payroll accurately and on time using Avanti Payroll and HRIS.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations regarding payroll taxes, deductions, and reporting.
  • Liaise with other departments, employees, and managers to resolve payroll issues and inquiries.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of company payroll policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll legislation, employment standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support year-end activities including T4s, ROEs, PIER reviews, and other payroll reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and enhance operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) Certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience using Avanti is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, practices, and regulations (T4s, ROEs, EHT, PIER, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Confident user of the Microsoft Office Suite of products and familiar with payroll software
