About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Permanent Licensing Manager, Licensing and Registration, the Program Administration Officer 1-2 is responsible for managing the approval, processing and issuance of gaming, place of amusement and special occasion liquor licenses within the parameters of Nova Scotia Alcohol and Gaming Division. This includes ensuring that gaming, liquor and amusement applications comply with regulations made pursuant to the Gaming Control Act, Liquor Control Act, and Theatres and Amusement Act, and other relevant legislation.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Directly supervising up to six (6) licensing staff and reviewing recommendations by these officers to ensure overall legislative and program compliance.
  • Ensuring proper development and implementation of the Amanda database.
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial information for licensees and provides direction, when needed, to applicants and charitable organizations regarding the division's licensing process, programs and services.
  • Liaising daily with the Investigation & Enforcement Division concerning issues of non-compliance.
  • Meeting regularly with the public and may act as the first contact for the Division, answer client inquiries, interview and assess applications regarding eligibility for temporary licensing and reconciles bingo licensing fees.
  • Ensuring that the applications are complete and accompanied by all applicable documentation in accordance with the various acts, regulations, policies, guidelines and the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Working in collaboration with the team to collect the applicable fees on behalf of the Division, either in cash or by cheque, debit or credit cards and provide requisite receipts for payments and other financial reconciliations as required.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you possess a bachelor's degree plus one (1) year of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Related experience will include providing in-person customer service excellence.

In addition:

  • You must have experience in supervising staff in a customer service, client-centered environment.
  • You have experience working with a high volume, fast-paced, time sensitive work environment whereby the work is confidential in nature.
  • You have the expertise to apply policies and interpret legislation and regulation effectively in order to process transactions and respond to customer inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • You possess excellent data entry skills and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • You must be proficient in a variety of software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and have a demonstrated ability to learn specialized programs.

Experience working with Amanda database program would be considered an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Dartmouth.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain level 3 security clearance.

Pay Grade: PR 06 - PR 10

Salary Range: $2,112.87 - $3,029.89 Bi-Weekly
