The Urban Planning and Economy department shapes the way Edmonton grows by planning changes to its urban form stewarding the environment fostering prosperity and setting corporate direction to move towards the City envisioned by the Edmontonians we serve.

Reporting to the Director Urban Strategies the General Supervisor Mobility is accountable for the strategic planning for all modes of transportation and the development of integrated planning policy and strategy. This role provides guidance technical expertise and thought leadership in the area of mobility planning to advance the Citys vision outlined in ConnectEdmonton and the City Plan.

What will you do

  • Develop an overarching mobility strategy integrating land use and transportation to guide the development of Edmontons infrastructure and urban form to grow a healthy sustainable and livable city
  • Plan and initiate strategies that translate the intent of the City Plan into clear guidance and sound implementation for all modes of transportation. Examples of current strategies underway include Mass Transit planning Active Modes Implementation Guide and Goods Movement strategy
  • Ensure that internal and external business partners are identified and appropriately engaged in projects. Interact with business partners across the corporation including senior leadership other government agencies and municipalities industry representatives educational institutions community groups and Edmontonians
  • Accountable for oversight of multiple operational priorities and projects and make decisions on how to balance competing resource needs
  • Remain current with technology industry best practices and City of Edmonton policy initiatives and provide professional expertise and mentoring
  • Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial and human resources in the delivery of the section and units work
  • Anticipate business opportunities influence policy planning and initiatives and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies orders of government community organizations and internal departments and branches
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (.) in good standing and registered as practicing with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered
  • Related leadership experience within a large complex unionized organization
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in planning policy in the field of transportation planning
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered

Assets:

  • A Masters Degree in transportation planning or a related field
  • Additional training in financial management public administration government relations project management and/or change management

Skills required for success:

  • Understanding of complex municipal subject matter and a proven ability to build influential relationships with internal and external partners
  • Strong political acumen strategic planning issue resolution and decision-making skills

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

  • 1 permanent full-time position
  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
  • Salary: (Annually) $123938.39 - $154920.88
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
