Job description

Established commercial/residential millwork operation serving the local BC market is looking for an experienced Lead Finish Carpenter to join our established operation. We are looking for a team player who will uphold our vision and propel us to the next phase of expansion and development as an organization. As the Lead Carpenter you will supervise field crews to install high-quality interior trim, cabinetry, moulding, and doors while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. As a skilled remodeling carpenter, you will work collaboratively with Sweeney clients, estimators, field personnel and office project managers performing demolition through finish carpentry on all remodeling projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the installation of intricate finishing details, including custom cabinetry and millwork, crown moulding, baseboards, window/door casings, etc., ensuring high-quality craftsmanship. Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other trades to ensure efficient project completion.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout and material requirements. Understand and implement work orders, change orders, work schedules and other carpentry related documents.
  • Supervise, train and mentor junior carpenters and apprentices on-site. Assist in the supervision and scheduling of subcontractors, venders, and field crew.
  • Keep informed of the entire project scope including revisions, change orders or changes to the scope of work and the schedule. Bring discrepancies and special conditions to the attention of the Production Manager for discussion and resolution.
  • Ensure jobsite safety, security, protection and maintenance of company tools.

To fully qualify for and be successful in this position you must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in carpentry, preferably installing commercial and residential millwork, proven leadership skills, and expert knowledge of building codes.
  • Expertise in trim, cabinetry, and woodworking, along with the ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various power and woodworking tools.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and building specifications with a strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to schedule/manage multiple projects on time and on budget
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a team setting with all levels of employees, subcontractors, and clients to achieve results.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

This is a key technical position requiring a full breadth of production installation and leadership capabilities. It is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to advance their career with a company that is well established with a reputation for excellence.

An excellent compensation and benefits package is offered for this full time, permanent position.

If this position suits your qualifications and interests, please apply with a current resume outlining your capabilities. Phone, online and live interviews (fully spread out in a spacious area to maintain safety) are ongoing until the position is filled.

Please ensure that your contact information is up to date and complete so that we can contact you directly to schedule an interview. Resumes, and all interviews, are held in confidence. Only qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview

Out of Province Applications:
Applicants applying from outside the province of BC are encouraged and will be considered but applicants MUST be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application. Relocation Assistance may be available based on individual applicant circumstances.
