Job Description Our Project Controls Team is looking for a Senior Lead Construction Planner for a multi‑billion dollar project located near Ft. Saskatchewan in northern Alberta. The Senior Planner will report directly to the Field Project Controls Manager.
Candidate will be responsible for Construction planning of the project including but not limited to the modularization program and all activities associated with multiple construction contractors, based on the project execution strategies, which include the Project Controls activities for the project.
As a Senior Planner you will be responsible to work collaboratively with the area construction management team and other disciplines/groups such as Engineering, Procurement, Contracting, Fabrication, Modularization, Construction, Pre‑Commissioning and Commissioning.
Your key responsibilities shall include:
Supervise and support the field planning team
Direct the development of critical path schedules based on engineering, procurement and construction philosophies for the project using Primavera P6
Supervise Area Planners activities on a daily basis to ensure that consistent methods and procedures are followed
Supervise and maintain an accurate and reliable progress basis for all aspects of the work
Monitor engineering production of design deliverables and their impacts against the construction schedule
Monitor procurement and material delivery dates and their impact on the construction schedules
Prepare overall progress and manpower forecasts for construction utilizing roll‑up techniques
Maintain full tracking of all work scope and the schedules performance against approved project goals and objectives
Regularly analyze construction schedule activity to identify areas of criticality
Schedule Activity Reviews and identify potential schedule impacts resulting from engineering and procurement schedule delays
Prepare management level reports regarding schedule performance and alerts management to potential schedule problems and necessary actions
Prepare management level curves, graphs and other pertinent statistical information
Participate in management level presentations where expertise in planning and scheduling is required
Work with construction contractors as required when schedule problems are encountered
Interface with client management as required
Conduct, lead or facilitate schedule risk analysis as required
Support and implement Schedule Risk Analysis review actions
Develop and maintain L1 to L3 construction schedules in accordance with Fluor and Client Standards and procedures
Resource Loading of schedule for Labor and Quantities
Implement the Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures
Analyze variances in schedule performance against the plan on regular time interval and provide forward looking strategies to mitigate variances
Manage and maintain the basis of schedule for construction
Interface with the project team
Work together with Progress team to analyze Contractor’s progress
Engage in the project change management process for implementation in the schedule and providing What If Analysis to support the Change process
Participate in internal and external audits
Organize and prioritize a variety of multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Plan and organize own work assignments
Basic Job Requirements
10+ years of project scheduling experience with 5+ years on large projects and several years at a senior level
Excellent communication skills
Fluent in English both written and verbal
Job related technical knowledge
Experience in Forensic Schedule Analysis
Significant technical knowledge and practical experience with applicable software systems: Primavera P6, Milestone Professional, Power BI and Microsoft Office (expertise in Microsoft Excel), Change Management, and Progress Measurement / Analysis / Reporting.
Ability to learn and apply knowledge
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor or master’s degree (preferable but not required)

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid‑point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
