Job description

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting all core human resources functions while leading the organization’s health, safety, and environmental programs. This role ensures compliance with employment legislation and occupational health and safety regulations, promotes a safe and positive workplace culture, and supports employees and leaders across the organization.

HR GENERALIST

  • Leading Recruitment and Hiring: Managing job postings, screening candidates, and conducting interviews in different countries of operations.
  • Employee Lifecycle Management: Manage and automate onboarding, offboarding, and other changes in employee employment status.
  • HRIS System Review and Set-up: Review current HRIS system and work with Supervisor and other team members or vendors to set-up new systems and/or update existing ones in different countries of operation.
  • Employee Relations: Provide general HR support to employees, including addressing employee concerns, resolving issues, and offering guidance on HR policies and procedures, and fostering a positive work culture and environment.
  • Performance Management: Coordinating the performance reviews, providing feedback, and developing improvement plans.
  • Training and Development: Organizing training sessions, professional development programs, and career growth opportunities for employees and managers.
  • Policy Administration: Work with the Supervisor and other team members to develop, implement, and evaluate HR and labor relations policies, programs, and procedures including updating employee handbook.
  • Employee Records: maintain confidentiality and accurate keeping of employee records and documentation.


HSE Functions:

  • Coordinate with management, supervisors, and employees to promote a culture of safety and encourage participation in safety initiatives.
  • Support or host regular safety meetings to discuss safety issues and provide updates on safety initiatives.
  • Conduct regular committee meetings to discuss safety issues and provide updates on safety initiatives.
  • Maintain safety records and documentation, including incident reports, safety statistics, and training records.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine the root cause and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Identify and assess risks and hazards associated with workplace activities, equipment, and materials.
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards and unsafe practices.
  • Prepare the required documentation and provide support for Safety Audits.
  • Staying up to date on changes to safety regulations and guidelines and ensuring that the organization remains compliant.
  • Update ISNet for Canada and the USA from time to time or as required.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in a combined HR Generalist and/or HSE role (or equivalent experience)
  • Working knowledge of employment standards, labour relations, and OHS legislation
  • Professional certifications are considered an asset, such as: CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources)
  • Experience supporting diverse employee groups and frontline operations is an asset


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices and occupational health & safety principles
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills
  • Ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity
  • Comfortable conducting investigations and having difficult conversations
  • Proficient in MS Office and HRIS / safety reporting systems
