Job description

What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Preconstruction Director, this is an opportunity for an experienced Project Coordinator or Field Engineer to develop their skills in the areas of preconstruction and bid development for large-scale, complex civil infrastructure projects. This position is suited to individuals who have 3 to 5 years of field experience and who would like to transition into an estimating role, or who would like to participate and gain bid experience, and later follow the project to an operations position once the project is awarded and in active construction. What You'll Do Here:

  • Pursue various projects including a combination of bid-build, design-build and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways to water and wastewater treatment.
  • Work with estimate teams on bid preparations.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission including labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and update estimate software with quantities.
  • Conduct subcontractor and vendor solicitation.
  • Complete subcontractor and vendor quote comparisons.
  • Insert quotes into estimate software.
  • Assist with means and methods for project construction.
  • Assist in the design-build process and work with design teams.
  • Analyze documents, drawings, specifications, proposals and addenda in preparation for pricing.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Be accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  • Drive estimating process and procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Perform post-bid and post-project analysis and ensure associated learning and communication takes place.
  • Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs and RFIs as required.
  • Incorporate and comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Drive positive relationships and serve as a key contact with clients, consultants and key subcontractors.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines, or an acceptable combination of education and previous experience.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in a project engineering or heavy civil construction environment.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to the project.
  • Proficiency in software related to the construction industry (e.g., Primavera scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility to work in both field and office environments.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence.

The expected pay range for this role is $72,000 - $90,000 per year. Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
