About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Facility Operations, the Facility Operations Supervisor is responsible for the planning, scheduling, coordination and execution of maintenance, repair work and caretaking operations within an assigned group of schools.

Operations include HVAC, building structures, regulated substances, plumbing / drainage, grounds, electrical, health and safety, and fire safety, in accordance with Board policies and procedures, relevant regulations and Building Codes, and industry best practices.

Duties include but are not limited to :

Facilitate an effective work team, including principals, caretaking staff and maintenance staff, to ensure efficient daily facility operations, problem solve emerging issues, and maintain collaborative working relationships within an assigned group of schools.

Administer and adhere to Board policies, procedures and the CUPE Collective Agreement for all direct reports.

Supervise unionized staff including recruitment and selection, performance evaluation, attendance support, conflict resolution, WSIB claims / reporting and worker accommodation reviews.

Develop and implement work schedules and procedures for caretaking and maintenance staff including management of workload and coverage for absent employees.

Ensure ongoing maintenance, service and inspection of equipment, providing documentation where necessary.

Plan and execute preventative maintenance and capital project work in collaboration with other divisions within the Facility Services Department.

Deliver training programs for caretaking and maintenance staff including boilers, compressors, air handling units, security systems and cleaning / maintenance equipment.

Monitor expenditures and ensure adherence to budgets while completing projects within identified timeframes.

Coordinate emergency response teams and schedule after-hours coverage when required.

Provide on-call supervision after hours, weekends and holidays on a scheduled basis.

Respond to after-hours emergencies as required.

Qualifications :

Post-secondary education in a related field or approved equivalent as determined by the Manager of Facility Operations.

Minimum five years supervisory experience managing staff; experience in an unionized environment related to caretaking and maintenance preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge and skills related to building operations, caretaking and maintenance, and health and safety regulations.

Customer service-oriented approach with excellent communication, planning, organizational, time management, and budget skills.

Proven interpersonal and communication skills related to problem-solving and conflict resolution including the ability to manage sensitive employee issues with tact and diplomacy.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required.
