The Facilities team is comprised of over 300 trades personnel and service workers that provide trusted services and stewardship in support of teaching, learning, and discovery.
This team is responsible for operations, maintenance, service, utilities distribution, and customer support. The Facilities Team Charter describes the purpose, vision, and values that in turn support the campus community.
Primary Purpose : To provide proactive cleaning services to the University of Saskatchewan campus with a focus on exceeding the expectations of students, faculty, research, administration, and visitors.
Nature of Work : Directly reporting to the Assistant Managers, Custodial Operation and Building services, this position provides proactive cleaning services to the University of Saskatchewan campus.
This position is expected to be self-motivated and able to take initiative to improve relationships, processes, and issues when they arise.
This position will work productively, both on an independent and team-oriented basis, while ensuring cleaning standards are being met.
As this position is customer-focused and facing, it is expected that care and attention will be put into greeting the customers and addressing concerns or requests that are brought up.
As this position may work in areas where there is access to sensitive, personal, and / or confidential materials, it is required that discretion and respect for those departments and clients is exercised.
Must be able to work in close contact with various animals, loose fur and hair. The work involves heavy physical labour and working safely with cleaning agents and solvents.

Typical Duties / Accountabilities : Performing cleaning tasks as assigned, included but not limited to cleaning washrooms (and all related fixtures), common areas, cleaning floors (use of dry and wet mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, automatic scrubbing machines and other related equipment) providing cleaning services in other areas as required to cover absences of other caretaking staff;
reporting building deficiencies; securing the building after hours; providing efficient, courteous customer service to the university community and visiting public when circumstances require.
Qualifications
Education : Completion of Grade 10. Completion of Grade 12 may be considered an asset. A current acceptable criminal record check is required.
This position may have to work at VIDO and employment is subject to successfully meeting strict security and confidentiality requirements.
Experience : Minimum one (1) year Caretaking and / or cleaning experience in an institutional / hospitality setting, and experience working safely with chemicals and power cleaning equipment are considered assets.
Customer and teamwork experience essential.
- Skills : Basic English reading, verbal and written communication skills at the appropriate level for the position; effective interpersonal and communication skills;
- customer oriented; familiarity with the appropriate power equipment; attention to detail; ability to work well independently and with others as part of a team;
- demonstrated ability to adapt to changing tasks and work environments; physical requirements such as being able to lift and move 25 lbs, and standing, walking, bending, moving for extended periods of time;
and time management skills.
