About the Opportunity

Our client who is located downtown Ottawa is currently looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join their growing team.

You will be responsible for implementing, maintaining and reviewing payroll processes to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions.

You will identify any areas of improvements within payrolls and lead the implementation of new payroll processes and systems.

Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Coaching the Payroll Analysts
  • Respond to employee queries on payroll related matters and communicates constantly with payroll providers to solve various issues while providing a balanced approach to routine and complex issues
  • Responsible for reviewing the processes and files completed by the Payroll Analyst(s) once payroll is balanced. Review supporting documentation, bi-weekly control books, main control books, registers etc.
  • Communicates and works closely with external payroll providers, tax advisors and internal teams (legal, tax, procurement) to implement Payroll in new countries / legal entities to ensure compliance with local legislation.
  • Initiate and complete the application process for Unemployment and Tax Withholding accounts in various US States
  • Ensure all Payrolls (National and International) are compliant as per local legislation and internal procedures
  • Review and sign off on the monthly pension registers
  • Act as first point of contact for all payroll providers when changes are requested and implemented
  • Responsible for the payroll audit and for responding to requests from internal and external auditors related to payrolls, 401K plan, Canadian pension plans or any other areas managed by Payroll
  • Collaborate with various internal and external teams to ensure compliance of the 401K plan to federal legislation. File annual reports with government authorities

About You

The successful candidate will have the following :

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and / or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designations
  • A minimum of 10 years of directly related work experience in payroll
  • Experience with multi-national payroll (particularly U.S.) is an asset
  • Exposure to Ceridian payroll systems Dayforce) is an asset
  • Good understanding of financial concepts and facility working with numbers
  • Solid analytical experience and problem-solving skills combined with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, handle conflict and manage stressful situations
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation, flexibility and ability to manage shifting priorities
  • Advanced technical and reporting skills
  • Bilingualism (French / English) is preferred
  • Must be able to obtain a Reliability clearance
