Job Summary

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

The Senior Wildlife Biologist will be a key team member in the Wildlife Section focused on supervising professional staff, supporting decision making within regulatory frameworks, and implementing regional wildlife projects.

Leading a regional team of subject matter experts, the Senior Wildlife Biologist guides regional wildlife and stewardship planning, including cross-ministry engagement and collaboration with Indigenous Nations and partners.

Job Requirements :

Education & Designation

  • Undergraduate Degree or higher in biological sciences or equivalent, AND
  • Registered, or immediately eligible, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology (CAB).

Note : Eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six (6) months of employment.

Experience

  • Minimum five 5 years of related experience in wildlife management, including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Experience in public and First Nations engagement on ecosystem management issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following :

  • Experience coordinating with Indigenous Nations on projects or field settings.
  • Advanced scientific experience related to wildlife population assessment, modeling and adaptive management.
  • Experience conducting wildlife population assessments and setting wildlife harvest allocations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
  • Experience in delivering both written and oral communications
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
