The successful candidate will contribute to the design and coordination of building mechanical systems while collaborating with mechanical, electrical and structural professionals.

This opportunity would suit an engineer who enjoys being involved throughout the project lifecycle and is looking to continue developing their technical expertise, project responsibilities and client-facing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and coordinate building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Contribute to the design of process piping, fuel-transfer systems and other specialized mechanical systems where required.
  • Prepare mechanical drawings, specifications and equipment schedules.
  • Produce design documentation through the preliminary, schematic, tender and construction stages.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical and other project disciplines.
  • Review technical specifications, drawings and construction details.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to assess existing mechanical systems.
  • Perform construction reviews to confirm that mechanical systems are being installed in general accordance with the design documents.
  • Assist with technical reports, calculations, equipment selection and project documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable building codes, standards and industry developments.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, consultants and internal project teams.
  • Support projects from initial concept through construction and completion.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Approximately 5-8 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible to obtain registration.
  • Experience designing mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial or multi-family buildings.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings and construction details.
  • Strong technical, organizational and project-coordination skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach and a professional attitude.
  • Willingness to attend project sites as required.
  • Valid driver's licence and the ability to undertake occasional short-duration travel.

What's Offered

  • The opportunity to join an established and collaborative engineering team.
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of building projects.
  • Ongoing professional development and career-growth opportunities.
  • A supportive multidisciplinary working environment.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits based on experience and qualifications.
