Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Civil Technician for a new, full-time position based in our Sault Ste Marie, Ontario office. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater systems, transportation infrastructure and stormwater management.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, supporting projects through design, tender, and construction phases. This role is well suited to a motivated technician or technologist with strong CADD skills and field experience who is looking to grow within a leading global consulting firm.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with preparing design, tender and record drawing packages utilizing Civil 3D software.

  • Contribute to the development of drawings for site servicing, grading, drainage, water distribution, sewers and municipal road design.

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other technical specialists to deliver high-quality project outputs.

  • Provide support to project teams during design development and construction phases.

  • Provide construction inspection services and assist with contract administration tasks including reading and interpreting contract documents, compiling daily and weekly reports, tracking payment quantities, etc.

  • Conduct field surveys and site measurements using GPS equipment.

  • Assist with environmental sampling at landfill sites including the collection of groundwater and surface samples while adhering to health and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technician or Technology program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure.

  • Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

  • Willingness to work on an out-of-town job site (approximately 3 hours from Sault Ste. Marie) for a few months, with travel required from Monday to Friday each week.

  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environment with variable weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in the Civil 3D design, surveying, and inspection of municipal infrastructure projects, including: road reconstructions, water distribution and wastewater collection systems

  • Prior construction inspection and field services experience

  • Experience completing topographic surveys using GPS equipment

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Certified Technician (C.Tech.), and/or Road Construction Junior Inspector (rcji) designations are considered strong assets

  • Experience producing site servicing, grading, drainage, and roadway drawings using Civil 3D

  • Experience assisting with cost estimates, technical specifications, and contract documents

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a project team environment.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $52000 to $75000.
