Job description

Our GFL team is expanding, and we’re looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join us in Victoria, BC! The person will be providing direct support to the accounting and administrative teams, the Accounts Payable Specialist will work closely with the finance and operational personnel of GFL. As an experienced accountant, you enjoy working in a fast-paced, growth environment. Possessing strong analytics, you are comfortable working through various finance functions within an organization and have a keen ability to spot and work through opportunities for improvement.

A “Day in the Life" of an Accounts Payable Specialist

Creating vendor purchase orders, change orders, receipts, and invoices.

Communicating with vendors, buyers, and operations managers to gather information about purchase and to resolve issues and discrepancies.

Providing support to buyers on cross-functional teams.

Work with cross functional teams on division specific billing and accounts payable requirements.

Entry of expenses and receipts for company purchase cards (P-Cards).

Preparation of Journal Entries, Balance Sheet reconciliations, and disposal ticket reconciliations.

Coordinate posting and reconciliation of intercompany transactions.

Ensure transactions are in accordance with company policy and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Strong attention to detail, and ability to flow through financial transactions.

Able to support closure on a tight schedule and provide timely analysis of results.

He / she must possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organization.

Able to generate superior financial information (including budgeting and forecasting).

Degree in Accounting. Relevant working experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Superior communication and teamwork skills.

Excellent computer skills covering ERP, operational and Microsoft office systems.

Primarily in an office environment at the main site operation.
