The People & Culture Manager will contribute to the success of the company by providing Human Resources support and leadership at the Coast Coal Harbour Vancouver Hotel by APA, a 220 room, unionized hotel in downtown Vancouver, with approximately 120 Ambassadors (employees) as well as collaborating with the 11 person centralized People & Culture team. Responsibilities :
- Works with the hotel’s leadership team to create an environment that is motivating and engaging; proactively manages the development of the culture in alignment with Coast Hotels Values and culture
- Ensures Ambassadors deliver excellent customer service aligned with company policies and brand promises; works with the hotel’s leadership team to remove barriers for delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Understands relevant legislation and regulations (i.e. OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations) as they apply to the company and ensures compliance
- Connects P&C plans with other departments and areas of the hotel as appropriate
- Aware of and understands how all areas of the business interact
- Attends industry and / or professional events or conferences to maintain industry / professional knowledge and network with industry / professional peers
- Focuses on short- and long- term priorities, maintaining a big picture perspective
- Is visible and accessible, providing open access for Ambassadors to build rapport, discuss issues and resolve concerns
- Uses conflict resolution skills and empowers Ambassadors to resolve issues and identify when to escalate them
- Lives the Coast Values and reflects the brand in the community; participates in local events, fostering a positive reputation for the company within the local community
- Provides expertise, support and collaboration within a centralized model of human resources for multi-property needs

Skills / Knowledge / Experience :
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experienceChartered Professional in Human Resource (CPHR) Professional designation or equivalentExperience working in a unionized environment required5-7 years of related experience, with 2-3 years in a leadership capacityProven ability to coach and influence leaders and peersAdvanced communication (written, verbal and listening), interpersonal, and customer service skillsAdvanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite; Proficiency with HRIS Systems and various technologiesKnowledge of OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations legislation and regulationsPrevious experience in the hospitality industry an assetExcellent problem resolution skills and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues within a functional areaProven ability to handle confidential information and situationsValid driver’s license as there will be some travel requiredNot content with the status quo; driven to create positive change and growthExemplifies Coast’s core values and enjoys working in a culture of accountability
