Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Tax & Treasury is a strategic senior finance leader who will contribute to the overall direction and management of Flair Airlines tax and treasury operations.

Your treasury oversight includes complete responsibility for Flair's overall financial health with oversight of all cash management functions.

As our tax leader, you will oversee our global income tax provisions and compliance operations. This position encompasses strategic direction setting, risk management, and administrative interface for both internal audit and income tax functions.

The Director ensures the organization's objectives are met by systematically evaluating and enhancing risk management including insurance, control, and governance practices.

Primary Job Functions

The role requires an individual that can work in a fast paced, evolving environment. Troubleshooting skills, excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are also a requirement for this role.

Additionally, a strong understanding of processes and controls, ASPE and IFRS accounting, SOX type compliance, enhanced technical and communication skills, and a proven ability to partner effectively across business functions.

Treasury Operations

  • Lead cash flow requirements, managing working capital, capital project expenditures and overall financial liquidity and business health.
  • Daily and weekly cash flow forecasting and management.
  • Evaluate cash management strategic projects and implement as required.
  • Oversee treasury team operations, in particular cash forecasting and liquidity requirements.
  • Work with financial institutions to recommend appropriate decisions.
  • Effectively manage professional relationships with banks, capital providers and payment processors.
  • Administer all bank accounts, including new accounts / closing accounts, new signers, new access holders and maintain clear records internally.
  • Ensure all vendor banking is maintained and accurate within the banking module and reflective of the accounting system.
  • Oversee and manage third party service providers and advisors.
  • Letter of Credit management (application, submission, and deliverable).
  • High level vendor payment management and communication (fuel partners, ground handling / airport partners in addition to regulatory bodies).
  • As needed, supports the executive team with required financial fundraising efforts to ensure the organizations financial health.
  • Adhere to and promote treasury accounting controls by following policies, principles, procedures and complying with federal, provincial and local finance and legal requirements.
  • Manage relationship with insurance providers including claims management. Periodically assess insurance needs for the enterprise and optimize.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and international tax regulations and return requirements.
  • Manage federal, provincial, foreign and international tax audits and requirements.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual tax provisions, financial reporting disclosures, and worldwide IFRS income tax reporting.
  • Preparation, filing and all associated communications associated with annual tax reporting requirements
  • Handle U.S. and other foreign activities reporting.
  • Liaise with various national and international regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with withholding tax requirements.
  • Provide leadership for global income tax provisions and compliance operations.
  • Manage GAAP effective tax rate guidance, cash tax rate forecasting, and worldwide income tax accounting SOX controls.
  • Work with cross functional teams and business leaders to assist with tax planning initiatives and special projects.
  • Foster a positive relationship with external auditors.

Safety Duties, Accountabilities, Authorities, and Responsibilities :

  • Involved in proactive risk assessments and remediation of any internal or externally identified fax compliance issues.
  • Encourage active participation in the SMS for all FAL personnel.

Qualifications and Requirements :

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, or related fields.
  • MBA an asset
  • Professional Designation (CA, CPA, CFA)

Experience :

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience across Finance, Tax and Treasury operations.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in public accounting or corporate tax department in addition to strong treasury management knowledge.
  • Experience in cash management, banking operations, and financial forecasting.
  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls.
  • Experience with ASC 740, U.S. federal tax compliance, and external auditor relationship management preferred.
  • Expertise in internal controls, audit processes, and income tax provision and compliance operations.
  • Proven track record of managing relationships with banks, capital providers, payment processors, and other financial institutions.
  • Experience in letter of credit management and vendor payment processing.
  • Compresence experience of corporate and practical tax financial functions.
  • Documented experience in public accounting or corporate tax department.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate team members.
