Position Summary
The Junior Geophysicist plays a vital role in Lamontagne geophysics limited field acquisition efforts by handling processing, archiving, and quality control of survey data. This position requires travel to on-site field projects as required and an office component. As part of the Kingston Team, the Junior Geophysicist reports to the Chief Geophysicist with dotted lines of communication to the Field Operations Manager. The candidate collaborates closely with the field crew, Operations Team, and Technology Team, bridging communication and ensuring efficient data processing and reporting.
Job Duties
- Participate in geophysical borehole and surface EM field surveys as required.
- Work closely with the field crew (Operations) and Chief Geophysicist.
- Prepare positional survey data, including GPX and KML files.
- Perform in-field or in office data processing and the archiving of geophysical data collected on a daily basis.
- Troubleshoot acquisition and processing problems and provide assistance.
- Create reports using Word, Excel, and occasionally presentations in PowerPoint.
- Ensure data quality and meet data delivery schedule requirements.
- Become proficient in older Macintosh operating systems and software. Identify software and hardware issues and report bugs.
Knowledge, Skills & Core Traits
Strong Macintosh computer skills, including data management, programming, and MS-Office proficiency.Experience with programming and command line commands (desirable).Ability to read and understand scientific plots, graphs, and engage in experimental problem-solving.Interest in computer logic, software, and programming.Degree in Geophysics or Similar and ability to obtain PGEO.Geophysical knowledge in electromagnetics and field experience is beneficial.Willingness to work in outdoor field conditions and office environment.Passion for the outdoors is an asset.Comfortable with camp accommodations.Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract and passport (valid for more than 6 months) are required.Health and Safety Compliance
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company protocols.Oversee the implementation of safety procedures and risk mitigation strategies.Conduct safety meetings sessions and reinforce the importance of safe practices among the team.Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Geophysics or a related field is an asset.Strong technical knowledge of geophysical survey techniques, and data processing.Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and adaptable approach.Knowledge of health and safety regulations and protocols in the geophysical industry.Excellent communication and client management skills.Proficiency in using geophysical software and data analysis tools is an asset.Valid Driver's License with a clean abstract is required.Salary Range : $60K-80K depending on experienceLanguage Requirement : English proficiency requiredSchedule : Flexible, depending on project requirements.Ability to commute / relocate : Willingness to travel and work at project sites as needed.You will report directly to the Chief Geophysicist.Collaborate closely with the Field crews and in office Technical team.Compliance Requirements
