About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, this position performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and / or surgical supplies and medical devices for the operating room and various areas of the hospital. In addition, this position performs related clerical duties and record keeping.

Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (course with practicum preferred)
Where there are no applicants who have completed the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program, consideration for a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in Training may be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program or who commit to completing this program at their own expense within the first 12 months of employment (must submit proof of course enrollment before being hired into the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in Training position).Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferredMembership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferredPrevious experience working in an MDR setting preferredExperience operating MDR related equipmentKnowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine PracticesDemonstrated organizational skills and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation are requiredExcellent communication skills, including verbal, written and comprehension skillsCritical thinking skills to aid with problem solvingAn aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skillComputer experienceRequired to carry up to a maximum of 30 pounds. Position includes repetitive bending, lifting, pushing and pulling carts. Constant standing and walking. Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noiseCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferredA skills test will be included as part of the selection process
