Our Burnaby Water Team is growing, and we want you to join our Water Team to work alongside others who share your passion to support communities through exciting and unique water, wastewater, general civil infrastructure and renewal projects as well as water resources and natural system projects.

You will participate with a team of professionals in the management of construction of large-scale Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant projects.

The projects will be in various phases from conceptual planning, through design, construction, and occupancy. Your role as a contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work independently on large projects of high complexity.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that an appropriate risk management framework is in place and authorizes the risk management policy.
  • Direct strategy and review strategic risks.
  • Monitor key risk indicators for any trends or signals that risks are increasing.
  • Oversee the management of key risks and implementation of risk treatment plans.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the risk management framework.
  • Work with Expert Advisors, Senior Management and the Design Engineer's Risk team to Identify Actionable Mitigation Strategies for Top Risks from current program risk register.
  • Maintain and update the current program risk register if needed / if there are significant changes to project conditions by working with the Design Engineer, Contractor, and Owner.
  • Assign Risk Owners for the top risks on the project and gather quarterly status
  • updates / commentary on how the risks are currently trending (is the probability still the same etc.)
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing the risks on the project and making sure mitigation strategies are being implemented by the Design Engineer and Contractor.

Escalate any potential issues to senior management in case of adverse impact to either project cost, schedule.

  • Work with Expert Advisors and the Design Engineer's Risk team to re-run current risk models / re-quantify risk reserve value if there are any significant changes to the risk register and provide updated risk reserve number to senior management.
  • Conduct peer reviews of the Design Engineer's risk model, confirm the validity and accuracy of risk reserve estimates when presented.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulation and any experience with applicable software, such as P6 Risk Analyzer, is an asset.
  • Understanding of design and construction contracts and the relationship between risk management and controls / management functions including project management, change control, planning & scheduling, cost & commercial management, and reporting.
  • Evidence of previous experience in definition and delivery of risk management plans within projects.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Collaborative working style and behaviors

Education and Experience

  • Qualification to Degree level in a relevant cost or construction related subject will be beneficial.
  • University Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or related discipline
  • M.A.Sc. or M.B.A. degree in Civil Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or related field is a strong asset.
  • Certification in risk management (e.g. PMI-RMP).
  • More than seven (7) years of relevant experience in quantitative / qualitative cost / schedule risk assessment on large Programs and Projects.
  • Extensive experience with Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is mandatory.
  • Experience using Enterprise Risk Management tools, for example, Active Sr. Risk Analyst (ARM), Predict! and Oracle PPM (P6R) is an asset.
  • Experience in the delivery of risk throughout the program / project lifecycle including support of financial / funding decisions and delivery / implementation of stage gates at Program level.
  • Experience with large construction or infrastructure projects

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
