Position Overview
Under the direction of the Site Coordinator or Supervisor – Nutrition and Food Services, Cook 2 or Cook 1, the Dietary Aide is responsible for the safe preparation, serving and distribution of nutritious meals to clients. The incumbent serves meals to the staff and visitors, performs cashier duties, and follows proper sanitation safety guidelines following established standards, departmental policies and government regulations.
Responsibilities
- Safe preparation, serving and distribution of nutritious meals to clients, staff and visitors.
- Perform cashier duties and manage cash transactions.
- Follow proper sanitation safety guidelines and government regulations.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods.
Experience
- Six (6) months previous experience working in food handling and/or health care food services environment.
Education and Certifications
- Minimum Grade 10 education.
- Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook/email and online training.
- Completion of a Dietary Aide certificate.
- Current Food Handler Training certificate level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course, or willing to acquire within first six (6) months.
Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of all therapeutic and texture modified diets.
- Knowledge of sanitary food handling.
- Knowledge of Electronic Menu Management Information System (EMMIS) if applicable.
- Demonstrated competency in cash management.
- Respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
- Proficiency in both official languages.
- Respect confidentiality in paper, electronic and other formats.
- Good work and attendance record.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance at least $1,000,000.
Physical Requirements
- Lift items up to 1‑5 kg constantly, 6‑11 kg occasionally and 23 kg rarely.
- Meet physical and mental demands of the job.
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- Work evenings and weekends as outlined in rotations.

- Complete and maintain satisfactory criminal record check, vulnerable sector search, adult abuse registry check and child abuse registry check (service charges borne by candidate).
