As part of this commitment, we are embarking on an exciting digital transformation to implement a new, modernized hospital information system (HIS). Our dedicated HIS team will collaborate closely with our trusted HIS vendor (Epic) and internal subject matter experts to develop a fully functional system that will empower us to deliver exceptional care and services.
The Database Administrator is responsible to install and administer the Epic database and data warehousing environments, ensuring that all database requirements for Epic are fulfilled. This role is part of the HIS project structure, with a key responsibility to design, deliver and sustain our systems to address both clinical and non-clinical needs, ensuring the HIS is utilized effectively and efficiently in patient care.
Accountabilities :
- Create and manage the database environments that serve production, reporting, disaster recovery, training, and non-production needs
- Install and maintain the administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high levels of availability and performance of Epic
- Configuring and maintaining environment copies according to the environment strategy
- Applying database and application upgrades and updates to production and non-production environments
- Understanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues
- Engaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources
- Writing and maintaining scripts to improve system management tasks
- Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity
- Following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration
- Participating in change control process for all planned application and technical activities
- Create and maintain documentation to build a repository of key configuration decisions and associated build
- Work closely with the Epic HIS vendor, project team and operational subject matter experts to help create the future state workflows by participating and leading site visits, working group meetings, validation sessions and other related meetings
- Facilitate and participate in meetings to discuss deliverables, issues, end user concerns and upcoming milestones
- Work closely with HIS team members to identify, document, and troubleshoot issues to find creative resolutions
- Partner with Epic vendor representatives to maintain communication and help vendor staff understand hospital’s operational needs
- Achieve Epic certification and / or accreditation
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24 / 7 support
- Work extended hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as required
Qualifications
Experience with database administration of InterSystems IRIS database platform is an assetStrong Unix skills using the command-line prompt, including navigating directory structures and file manipulationProficient in troubleshooting poor performance, identify causes for slowness, able to read and interpret query execution plans, make use of the database engine tuning advisor along with SQL profilerPrevious experience working with a modernized HIS at an EMRAM Stage 6 or higher and / or Epic certification is an assetProficiency in designing, developing, and maintaining SSIS packages for data integration, transformation and migration is considered an assetExperience with implementing and managing database encryption methods such as Transparent Data Encryption and column-level encryption is considered an assetExperience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Firebase is an assetDemonstrated critical thinking skills, strong organizational skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills are requiredDemonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Enterprise applications (i.e. Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneNote) is requiredAbility to learn new software and systems, demonstrating technical aptitudeAbility to work in an agile environment to deliver an HIS that meets end user needsAbility to work independently and in collaboration with a team to meet HIS project milestones and ensure successful project deliveryAbility to analyze user requirements and produce creative solutions to meet end user needsAbility and willingness to support project success in a manner that goes beyond completion of assigned tasksAbility to persevere in a high intensity project to overcome obstacles and difficult situations within a time sensitive implementationAbility to travel to the United States as requiredMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationAdditional Information
Hours : Currently Days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
Salary Range : $85,839.00 - $107,308.50
