Job Summary

A hands-on role helping children and youth in your community!

An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioral or psychiatric illness.

The Psychiatric Social Worker provides services such as community consultation services, training / capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

Job Requirements :

Master's Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology, or Child and Youth Care;

a comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered. NOTE : Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW), within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.

NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Recent experience working in a forensic setting or with a forensic population.
  • Experience working in a psychiatric or mental health unit.
