Lecturer in Biomedical Toxicology

The Toxicology Centre, under the School of Environment and Sustainability, is actively seeking a scholar for a one-year term appointment at the rank of Lecturer.

Applicants are expected to have completed a PhD and to have experience teaching Toxicology, Biology, or a related biomedical discipline at the post-secondary level.

The appointment will consist of teaching and collegial service duties (, program administration).

The ideal candidate should have training in classical biology and toxicology disciplines, with an emphasis on biomedical rather than environmental specializations, allowing them to focus on teaching biomedical, mechanistic, and forensic toxicology topics.

Added expertise in pharmacokinetics or toxicokinetics, chemical analytical and bioanalytical methods, and familiarity with the chemical risk assessment process, would be considered assets.

As such, this Lecturer will make a critical contribution to the Toxicology Program at USask, both to existing undergraduate and graduate programming, as well as to a new professional master’s program in Chemical Risk Assessment (MRA) that is scheduled to launch in September 2024.

The Toxicology Program contributes to several existing and likely future USask Signature Areas, and to the mission of USask to become the university the world needs.

Teaching capacity in the abovementioned fields is critical for the Toxicology Program to remain the #1 interdisciplinary toxicology program in Canada, and one of the top programs in the world.

The , established in 1982, is the hub of USask toxicological research and provides administrative support for the interdisciplinary toxicology undergraduate and graduate programs.

Laboratories at the Centre are well equipped with a comprehensive array of modern research infrastructure, including full analytical chemistry and molecular biology capabilities.

The Centre also houses the 650 m2 Aquatic Toxicology Research Facility for culturing and experimentation with aquatic animals.

The Centre enables highly interdisciplinary research and training that unleashes discovery to tackle complex problems and seek sustainable solutions that benefit society.

The is home to a diverse and interdisciplinary group of faculty who engage in collaborative and community-engaged scholarship to solve pressing issues that concern our planet, including complex sustainability challenges related to global water security, regenerating and sustaining healthy ecosystems, conserving biocultural diversity, assessing and managing pollution, improving rural and remote energy security, and advancing good environmental governance all aligned with and several of the .

Qualifications :

Key qualifications for the position include :

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in a discipline that is directly relevant to this position; post-doctoral experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Evidence of graduate and / or undergraduate teaching with an engaging instruction style; online or hybrid teaching experience is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as demonstrated through evidence of collaborative interactions, community engagement, and team collegiality.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a one-year limited-term lecturer position in the School of Environment and Sustainability, with teaching commitments in the academic programs administered by the Toxicology Centre.

The standard salary band for a lecturer position for the 2022-2023 academic year was $83,150 - $123,458 (the 2023-2024 salary ranges are not yet available).
