Plant Operator

Location and Position

Port Mellon, BC – full‑time permanent.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent (formal education not always required).
Minimum of 1 year experience working in a chip plant and operating plant equipment.

Skills and Abilities

Operate heavy equipment such as Tanguay, front‑end loader, forklift, telehandler, and scissor lift.

Knowledge of different log species.

Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Adherence to all safety policies and regulations, including wearing required safety equipment.

Certifications and Licenses

Valid driver’s license is highly preferred.

Valid first aid Level 3 certificate, or willingness to complete the course, is considered a priority.

Additional Requirements

Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends, and overtime as needed.

Completion of pre‑employment screening processes, reference checks, and prior work verification.

Ability to commute to and from work daily.

Responsibilities

Conduct pre‑job equipment inspection.

Provide coverage for Tanguay operator or any other position.

Perform all aspects of the job safely.

Tie up and check scows, load scows to specifications, and scale scows.

Keep scow float clean and lubricate and adjust scow sleds.

Use chainsaw to clear jams or handle oversized logs.

Assist other workers in the area.

Operate front‑end loader to load scows, trucks, move chips, hogs, sawdust, etc.

Operate forklifts, telehandlers and scissor lifts as needed.

Assist in chipper knife changes, debarker changes, conveyor belt adjustments and repairs.

Sharpen chipper knives.

Plant clean‑up as required.

Load logs with Rotobec.

Operate chipper booth when needed.

General housekeeping in the plant such as cleanup of woodchip spillage from conveyors.

Perform all other duties requested by management.

Hourly rate : $43.57
