What we are looking for:
Reporting to the Managing Director, Special Situations, the candidate is responsible for supporting the investment team on problem loan management, credit restructuring and special situations in order to achieve financial and investor return objectives.
The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with experience in loan restructuring and workouts within the Canadian small and mid-market business sector with a knowledge of insolvency processes. Candidates must also have excellent negotiation and communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Your responsibilities:
- Supports the Managing Director in resolving non-performing loans with the objective of maximizing returns for fund investors
- Working with the Managing Director, develops and assesses potential restructuring options and strategies, supported by appropriate financial analysis and due diligence
- Participates in negotiations with borrower management and other stakeholders
- Prepares credit submissions
- Working with the Managing Director and external legal counsel, reviews loan amendments, forbearance agreements and other legal documents
- Assists the deal team with reviewing loan agreements on new loan originations
- Assists the Managing Director with portfolio reporting and ad hoc initiatives
- Shares knowledge and collaborates with deal teams and risk management on potential problem loans or loan issues
Must have requirements to be successful in this role:
- Undergraduate degree in business or finance
- Five to eight years and related experience in the Canadian debt market with a recent focus on special loan management or restructuring advisory as well as a strong background in credit assessment, transaction structuring and documentation
- Strategic and entrepreneurial vision with creative problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail with an ability to prioritize and make decisions in a timely matter
- Advanced financial analysis skills, including the building of robust cash flow forecasts and financial models
- Knowledge of laws governing restructuring and insolvency
- Professional designation an asset, e.g., CPA, CIRP or LIT
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Good oral and written communication
- Proficiency in English and French (oral and written) is an asset
- Occasional travel required
