Position Highlights:
Associates in Investment Banking enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they execute a broad range of transactions. A high degree of responsibility is afforded to those demonstrating initiative and the desire to take on such responsibility.

At the early stages of their career Associates focus on client presentations financial modeling research and mentoring/supervising Analysts and interns. As the individuals career progresses Associates take on increased responsibilities on live transactions and participating in business development under the guidance of senior group members. Scotiabank brings new Associates in contact with senior team members and clients at the earliest possible stage allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating relationships.

A significant amount of effort diligence and initiative is required to properly execute assignments. The complexity of clients financial requirements coupled with the intense competitiveness of the investment banking industry necessitates a full commitment to the task at hand. Standards are very high as most work is presented to senior executives at client firms and supervision is provided only to the extent that it is required.

With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small project team approach Associates have ample opportunity for career growth and development. On any given project Associates will interact with departments of the firm such as Mergers & Acquisitions Corporate Banking Equity Capital Markets Debt Capital Markets Leveraged Finance Global Fixed Income Global Equity Derivatives and others gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and the capital markets.

What Youll Do:

• Champion a client centric culture focused on deepening client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships systems and knowledge to deliver solutions that Scotiabank can provide across its footprint and generate revenue. Relationship management and cross collaboration includes:
• Coordinating with the various product groups and industry coverage teams within GBM
• Developing and maintaining effective industry relationships with various external parties and clients
• Day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
• Become an expert in certain verticals within the broader TMTH landscape
• Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of clients including the development of financial models and supporting the team in determining advisory and financing solutions for these clients
• Collecting consolidating and interpreting company industry and market data
• Performing comprehensive financial statement analysis and creating and maintaining financial models
• Financial and written analysis of companies and industries
• Identifying and developing business opportunities for and with clients
• Preparing client presentations including compiling data and assembling presentation materials
• Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
• Applying product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial and strategic objectives
• Develop junior bankers on the team and across GBM through active engagement focusing on skill development (i.e. technical coverage and other professional and leadership skills) and providing valuable real-time constructive feedback to support their career development
• Actively partner with group leaders and broader team to build reinforce and maintain positive team dynamics engagement and morale
• Actively contribute to a high performance inclusive work environment

What Youll Bring:

• Minimum work experience requirement:
• 2 years of work experience in Investment Banking
• 3 years of work experience in other relevant roles
• A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business Finance Math Engineering Economics Science or Technology would be preferred
• Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis accounting and financial theory
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent command of Microsoft Suite with an emphasis on Excel
• A high level of attention to detail
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
• The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines and perform effectively in a team environment
• High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
• Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
• A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts
• Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions

Work Arrangement:
This position is an onsite role with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
