Job Description
The Print Production Operator works as a member of the college’s print services team to serve College community customers in their printing and copying needs. Utilizing an online web-to-print system, this position operates multiple print and copy production machines, monochrome and colour simultaneously, as well as various pieces of finishing equipment. Communicating with customers is an integral part of the operator’s duties which also include regularly dealing with confidential material. This position has a number of duties involved with the production of course-pack materials and involves a close working relationship with Bookstore staff.
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Receives, processes, and adjusts as necessary and completes incoming print orders through established procedures in web-to-print job tracking system or in coordination with the Print Services Operations Clerk;
• Programs each job’s specifications into appropriate copier/printer; makes adjustments for quality output; loads required paper stock(s) and runs jobs; monitors output for quality; replenishes toner and corrects problems with run as they occur;
• Determines the requirements and Print Services capabilities to meet the needs within the customer’s time specifications, in conjunction with customer and supervisor as required;
• Scans preprinted material and prepares the digital output for reprinting;
• Contacts customers to clarify instructions or discuss available options if written instructions cannot be fulfilled; provides proofs as needed;
• Coordinates process for course packs to be verified, printed and sold in the Bookstore; Maintains security of material and retrieves material from security area on request;
• Places completed orders on appropriate pick-up shelf or packages and addresses items for delivery by intercampus mail or freight;
• Provides supervisor with lists supplies that need to be ordered; orders needed parts and materials for production equipment; produces stock of preprinted supply materials;
• Assists students and college staff with multi-function devices and printers as needed;
• Assists in organizing and stacking paper boxes and supplies, maintains a clean and safe working environment;
• Records monthly meter reading on equipment and submits to supervisor or vendor; records diagnostic information and arranges for service calls for production equipment as needed;
• Assists customers with front desk activities, including payments, as required;
• Runs Risograph printer as necessary as time permits;
• Operates all bindery equipment as need and time permits;
• Works with supervisor to improve procedures and processes to ensure customer satisfaction and production efficiencies where possible;
• Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity. Qualifications Grade completion and six months experience operating high speed copying/printing equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to understand and work with the production side of web-to-print system;
• Demonstrated proficient with PC’s and Microsoft Office products.
• Must be able to lift and move boxes of paper weighing lbs.
• Proven communication skills and custom service to work well with customers both internal and external.
• Demonstrated time management and organization skills to prioritize workload for efficiency as well as ensuring fairness in meeting customers’ needs.
