Communications Coordinator

Overview :

The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is seeking a Communications Coordinator to help promote and support the communication needs as the festival embarks on its milestone 25th anniversary year. This role will focus on social media and traditional media activities, engaging with sponsors and donors, working on website content, press releases, speeches, and announcements, as well as working on Festival program advertisements, physical and digital.

About GIFF :

The Gimli International Film Festival is Manitoba’s premier film festival, and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We show the best contemporary cinema from Manitoba, Canada and around the world. This includes narrative and documentary, live action and animated, in short, mid-length, and feature film formats from across the globe. Our festival takes place annually on the last weekend of July (from Wednesday evening to Sunday night) in the lakeside community of Gimli. We screen over 100 films and provide our patrons with post-screening Q&As, industry sessions, and networking events, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the Interlake region. We value our artists and are committed to paying standard rate screening fees as outlined in the IMAA Fee Schedule.

Ideal Candidate :

Are you our ideal candidate? We are looking for an individual who possesses :

  • A keen eye for design and artistic production; love for social media trends, film, and the broader arts.
  • Ability to organize a social media calendar for various platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A record as a proven multitasker capable of juggling numerous and distinct priorities and relationships with grace under pressure in a variety of circumstances.
  • Great organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Proven ability to support the organization’s goals and priorities.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Assisting with the creation and posting / publishing of content for social media accounts.
  • Fielding of inquiries through social media accounts with the appropriate information
  • Assisting in the execution of GIFF’s annual press conference.
  • Writing drafts and releasing of GIFF official press releases to media, sponsors, filmmakers, passholders, and other stakeholders, as necessary.
  • Drafting and posting of GIFF Blog Posts on the festival website, for dissemination via social media.
  • Updating GIFF’s email contact lists and GIFF’s official website.
  • General promotion of GIFF’s 2024 line-up, events, and activities.
  • Mitigate requests for interviews from media, which will include scheduling GIFF staff and exhibiting filmmakers for media hits.
  • Work on GIFF’s media hit archive that documents all our 2024 press coverage, with both physical copies (newspapers, print) and a digital database for posterity.
  • Capture web traffic statistics for website : pre-event, during, and post event.
  • Other related tasks as required.
  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar role; Working towards or possessing a degree or diploma in communications / marketing or business / administrative management.
  • Experience working in the Arts & Culture sector is an important asset
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and related software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience and ability to multi-task, exhibit consistent follow-through and work independently.
  • Understanding of local and global filmmaking community and industry; understanding of social trends.
  • Technical photography, A / V, graphic design, or video editing skills would be a considerable benefit.
  • WordPress experience or proficiency is an asset.
