Job description

Reporting to a senior executive leader, the Finance Manager is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and administration of the Finance and Payroll functions. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across financial management, payroll, internal controls, risk management, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

The Finance Manager plays a key leadership role by providing financial information, analysis, and advice to senior leaders, supporting organizational decision-making on operational and strategic matters. The position also focuses on team leadership and development, continuous improvement, and alignment with the organization’s purpose, values, and strategic objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with senior leadership, develop and implement departmental priorities, policies, goals, and objectives
  • Establish clear accountabilities and promote best practices to ensure the department consistently meets performance targets
  • Support short- and long-term departmental planning aligned with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of financial and human resources through active participation in planning, review, and allocation processes
  • Lead the resolution of internal and external stakeholder issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional and leadership development
  • Ensure fiscal accountability through the preparation, monitoring, and adherence to departmental budgets
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, systems, and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and asset protection
  • Monitor and forecast cash flow and provide recommendations to support effective cash management
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, incorporating benchmarking and organizational priorities
  • Present budget and financial information to senior leadership as required
  • Oversee monthly financial close processes and provide timely, accurate financial reporting and analysis
  • Support leaders with departmental budgeting, variance analysis, and business planning
  • Prepare financial presentations and materials for executive leadership and governance bodies
  • Evaluate and support business cases and initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, revenue generation, and cost control
  • Ensure the integrity of financial data, payroll files, and system configurations
  • Develop and provide financial and performance reports to support informed decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, standards, and external reporting requirements
  • Prepare and submit reports to external stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required
  • Oversee all aspects of the annual audit process, including financial statement preparation
  • Manage lease agreements and other financial contracts
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all finance-related functions
  • Perform other duties as required to support organizational operations

Education and Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA or equivalent)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a master’s degree in business or management is an asset
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a leadership or management role within finance
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience leading and developing professional teams
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Ability to work independently in a consultative and advisory capacity
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective conflict resolution and change management capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated experience supporting organizational initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Understanding of workforce planning, staffing, and scheduling considerations
  • Knowledge of labour relations and collective agreements is an asset
  • Proficiency with financial systems, payroll and scheduling software, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing demands
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable workplace culture

    Pay : $85,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
