Position : Supply Chain Specialist
Reports To : President
Location : 264 Fairall St. Ajax, Ontario L1S 1R6
Role / Responsibilities :
- Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers for raw materials, tools, and equipment.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and responsiveness to the company's needs.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to forecast and determine material requirements.
- Ensure the availability of materials to prevent production delays while optimizing inventory levels.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and standards to ensure compliance in procurement practices.
- Analyze market trends and material pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Resolve disputes or issues with suppliers promptly to maintain smooth operations.
- Plan and manage the logistics of incoming and outgoing materials and finished products.
- Oversee the selection of transport modes (e.g., truck, rail, ship) to balance cost and delivery efficiency.
- Implement best practices for warehouse organization and storage to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Ensure all shipments meet legal and regulatory requirements, including proper documentation and customs clearance.
- Oversee the coordination of deliveries to customers and between production facilities.
- Lead and mentor procurement and logistics staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Develop contingency plans to address unforeseen events.
Knowledge and Requirement :
Understanding of metals, alloys, and other raw materials used in fabrication (e.g., carbon and stainless steel, aluminum, composites).Familiarity with material grades, specifications, and certifications (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO).Basic understanding of fabrication methods such as welding, machining, cutting, and forming.Knowledge of tools, machinery, and consumables required for fabrication.Ability to identify suppliers that provide reliable and high-quality equipment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and material specifications.Familiarity with bills of materials (BOMs) and their role in procurement planning.Familiarity with local and international markets for raw materials and components.Understanding total cost of ownership (TCO) and its implications for purchasing decisions.Knowledge of inventory control principles, such as just-in-time (JIT) and economic order quantity (EOQ).Awareness of strategies to minimize overstocking or stockouts.Basic understanding of procurement contracts, terms, and conditions.Familiarity with local and international trade regulations, tariffs, and import / export requirements.Familiarity with incoterms, freight documentation, and customs clearance procedures.What we offer :
