Job Description
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for the management and maintenance of enterprise databases, adhering to data governance and data management policies. This includes designing databases in compliance with data integrity standards, structuring requirements, and application specifications. The role also involves monitoring enterprise metadata usage and storage, creating and implementing database backup and recovery strategies, and proactively monitoring and optimizing performance as needed.
Responsibilities
Database Administration and Maintenance (approximately 55% of time)
- Deploy, configure, monitor, maintain, and improve the performance of internal databases in the cloud and on-premises in LGI’s data center, following Oracle best practices.
- Ensure all databases are updated with the latest security patches to guarantee proper protection of confidential data.
- Upgrade databases to newer versions at the request of the R&D team.
- Provide Level 3 support to LGI team members for database-related issues and requests.
- Ensure the availability and regular backup of company databases and establish data recovery procedures.
- Build and implement necessary security protocols to ensure data integrity and protect databases against threats or unauthorized access.
Database Optimization and Resilience Improvement (approximately 30% of time)
- Define, create, maintain, strengthen, and document database management policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with industry best practices.
- Clearly identify issues and develop action plans to recover databases in case of disasters (corruption, data deletion, or similar situations).
- Optimize client databases to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Internally test database-related solutions and recommend improvements or changes to current methods as needed.
- Assess and minimize the risk of service outages for clients by proposing tools and processes to ensure environment redundancy.
Advisory Services (approximately 10% of time)
- Provide information related to LGI’s relational database management system during RFP processes as needed.
- Collaborate with solution architects, developers, and deployment teams to optimize and improve Oracle database deployment and usage.
Other Related Responsibilities (approximately 5% of time)
Qualifications
- More than 7 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, database schema creation and design, data analysis, business continuity, capacity planning, metadata management, backup and recovery, and maintaining data integrity.
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience in database administration, database scripting, performance management, and data security.
- Knowledge and experience working with Oracle tools such as Oracle Data Guard and GoldenGate.
- Experience working with SQL Server is an asset.
- Demonstrated learning agility, adaptability, creative reasoning, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team structure.
This position must be bilingual as the candidate will be responsible for working with documentation in both French and English and communicating, orally and in writing, with both French-speaking and English-speaking partners/clients/suppliers/colleagues.
