OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director, HSEQ and working closely with the Logistics Supervisor the Health, Safety & Training Coordinator will ensure consistent application of the Health and Safety Management Plan (HSMP) and the Training Management Plan (TMP). The Health, Safety and Training Coordinator will facilitate, implement, document and perform tasks specific to our HSMP and TMP’s Execution and administration and support organizational Health, Safety and Training performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Health and Safety
- Assist maintenance personnel to help resolve health and safety challenges.
- Monitor and Maintain the Intelex Technologies webpage , working closely with Intelex Administrators
- Verification of all injury reports within ’s Intelex System
- Perform safety inspections and develop clear action plans and monitor progress.
- Take an active role in the field operations tool box and weekly safety meetings
- Ensure supervision and management are kept current regarding all safety issues and concerns
- Actively coach front line field supervision on how to meet their daily challenges head on and support them on a day-to-day basis.
- Support incident investigation management process by conducting comprehensive accident and incident investigations and follow-up with corrective actions implemented
- Research and define issues, the applicable legislation, and options for correction.
- Complete required reports and forms to ensure proper documentation of Health and Safety activities and effective communications.
- Conduct performance observations and coach to support and develop personnel with Health and Safety skills and knowledge.
- Understand and apply company procedures; industry practices & fundamental industry regulation; emergency response plans; specific job operations and equipment.
- Monitor the confined space program and permitting for accuracy and performance
- Monitor emergency preparedness at the Equipment and Yard Facilities.
Training Coordination
Actively monitor / track new employees as they participate in the New and Young Worker Program.Perform hourly and salaried employees new hire orientations as requiredArrange and perform internal task specific training, i.e. Confined Space, Mobile Equipment, and Fall ArrestBook third party training as required for all employeesLaisse with 2404 and 115 Unions Representatives on training requirements for hourly employeesPerform annual gap analysis on training requirements for and their projectsManage and maintain the Training and Competency Matrixes within the SharePoint SiteBe a resource to the Training and Competency Committee in strategic planning of training and assessmentsReturn to Work
The HST Coordinator shall be responsible for coordinating all activities associated with the RTW program, working with internal and external parties to design and implement effective RTW Plans and completing the required administration associated with the program.The HST Coordinator must be methodical in applying the program’s requirements and must maintain thorough documentation.The HST Coordinator shall develop individual RTW Plans with input from the injured / ill workers, the Supervisor, and health care providers and work with field Supervisors to facilitate an injured / ill worker’s earliest possible return to the workplace and their pre-injury / illness position.They shall also work with the injured worker to assist in a positive application of the RTW process, maintain regular communications with the person and monitor the progress of each return-to-work case and advise all involved parties of any changes to wages, duration or duties of the plan, required changes to the plan and the closure of the plan.The RTW Coordinator shall have an understanding and knowledge of disability / claims management principles, relevant legislation, problem solving / conflict resolution and worker information privacy requirementsQUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
National Construction Safety Officer Designation (mandatory requirement)Canadian Register Safety Professional (preferred requirement)5+ years’ experience, preferably in heavy construction and / or marine sectors.BCCSA Claims Management CertificationExperience with the Health and Safety application of heavy lift cranes is an assetConfined Space and Fall Arrest permitting and management experience is a necessitySkills, Knowledge and Required CompetenciesConfined Space and Fall Arrest Trainer certification or required knowledge to achieve these certifications.Training and experience in Return to Work and claims managementStrong work ethic and interpersonal skills.Strong organizational, problem solving, verbal and written communication skillsAbility to develop and deliver training programsAbility to handle physically demanding work that may be outside and on project sites.Clear understanding of current health, safety & environmental legislation.Occupational First Aid (Level 2 or 3 - mandatory requirement)Strong ability with Microsoft Office, and SharePoint.Experience with safety related software such as Intelex is an asset.Possess a valid BC Drivers Licence and clean driving recordAble to provide a Province of BC Drivers Abstract on an annual basis
