Salary: Core range $64,874.39$76,010.69 The target hiring salary for this position is minimum (Step 1) up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, the Skilled trades Instructor, Culinary & Field Placement Specialist (Instructor) provides academic leadership and develops an effective learning environment in the program lab and classroom. The Instructor develops, delivers, and evaluates students within the apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, and post-secondary culinary related programs. The Instructor is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinsh:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi: (Respect and the Good Mind)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Planning & Delivery 30 %

• Designing and delivering curriculum aligned with Skills Trades Ontario and SNP learning objectives. This includes preparing lesson plans, instructional materials, developing course outlines and assignments, and teaching both theory and practical skills in classroom and lab settings;
• Demonstrating safe equipment use; and maintains a clean and safe learning environment;

Student Evaluation and Support 20%

• Assessing student progress using various evaluation methods, submits evaluations, tracks attendance and performance, maintains records, and provides academic support through consultation and referrals to support services;

Kitchen Services & Management 20%

• Supporting day-to-day operations of the kitchen, including inventory management, and equipment maintenance;
• Overseeing culinary students during kitchen operations, ensuring proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment while enforcing health, safety, and sanitation standards;
• Developing menus aligned with learning objectives and budgets; supervise food preparation, quality, presentation, and service delivery;
• Maintaining kitchen cleanliness, manage inventory and purchasing, monitor equipment, and foster positive relationships with vendors, customers, and internal teams;

Work Placement Coordination 15%

• Identifying, secures, and monitors student work placements that align with career goals and program standards. Maintains employer relationships and supports students throughout their placements;
• Conducting site visits, maintains placement records, and addresses placement-related challenges, which may include supervising on-site work experience;

Institutional/ Program Engagement & Administration 10%

• Participating in institutional activities by attending meetings and training, supporting events such as orientation and annual celebrations, adhering to policies, contributing to policy development, and assisting with planning and reporting to support collaborative initiatives across SNP;

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Completion of post-secondary training in Culinary related program, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship or Certificate of Qualification for the program of instruction.

A Red Seal Endorsement is preferred

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE

Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in a chef or cook role, and safety procedures required in a kitchen environment.

Experience in instructional delivery within post-secondary or apprenticeship programs, including curriculum development, student evaluation, and coordination of work placements. Familiarity with administrative processes, record-keeping, and stakeholder engagement is also required.

Criminal Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.
